Already pretty covered, but I used Weber's GBBQ grate in my MasterTouch.

Briquettes work great, would not have to refill unless you were doing multiple tomahawks or batches of wings.

Use about half a big chimney, mix of old and new for some steaks, and lid thermo was 600F even with the dampers 90% closed.

edit: My opinion is to stick with a known brand for grates - SnS, Weber, etc. due to the chance of getting lead or something funky.

I decided on the grate to go with my vortex. (Both Christmas presents, vortex in person, grate with gift cards!) This claimed it was thicker than regular grates and is stanless steel. Both are true. This thing is awesome! I am happy so far! :) A784E829-5549-4FA6-9707-2278C5ED21BF.jpeg

So which one did you buy?, the one you linked earlier ?

I know it is a pricey and different direction, but I recommend the Killa Grilla grate, the price has increased since I purchased mine, but it is an incredible tool. I love that there are no loose or moving parts, but others here love theirs with the moveable sides. This grate is so thick it can take the heat of the vortex.

And produce grill marks like this!

That link is for the 26" grate, right?
I just bought the one for a 22.5" kettle. It has the flip up sides and on sale.
Thanks for the rec!

Yep, I’m pretty sure that’s the same one the kids got me. I’m not “easy” on them and this has proven more than satisfactory for my needs!
Buddy, you’ve got years of use ahead with it!

Hey totally messed that up, yeah I have the 22.5, wrong link.
I hope you love the grate as much as I love mine.

Weber and Amazon have the GBS grate for $60.00 now.
Thats a big jump from a few years ago, and its only nickel plated.
Mines rusting after only a few years. I needed a upgrade.

Seeing that it's just Barb and myself I'm making a wing and KFC cooker out of my Jumbo Joe. Made a vortex out of a two dollar SS Walmart dog bowl. But having a hard time finding an 18" grate with a removable center section. Found one on Amazon a while back but the price was nuts $79!

What made that so desirable?
Just curious..:)
If you have the sns it pairs perfectly with it. The grate has a single side flip up that is as big as the sns so you can easily replace charcoal or wood or water if needed when using the sns especially for low and slow cooks very easily. Simular to the way the one you are getting has the two side flip ups to refill the Weber charcoal baskets, that one aligns with the the sns.
