Weber Genesis Year and Parts/Decal Questions

Picked this grill up today. Im going to rebuild the whole thing.. The stickers with the grill year and info is pretty much non-existent. First question.

1. About what year is this grill? The handle and the tables seems to be made out of composite decking, i thougt it was wood from the photos but it wasnt.. Im pretty sure this is incorrect. Am i right? Id like to go with wood anyway.

2. Can i get replacement/aftermarket decals/emblems for this grill.? Gas bottle level decals ect.

3. Would anyone here have any spare brackets that hold the wood tables together.. These ones aren't the greatest and id like to get my hands on some that are a bit better..

4. Also looking for the wooden handle, or i may just make a plain wooden one.. I don't have routers and stuff to make any fancy cuts...

5. Looking for the mechanism that the bottle hangs on also.. This one is pretty rusty.

Hi Chuck,

the grill is late 90’s. The slats are durawood a composite material.

you can use a wood slat for a handle. Don’t throw out the plastic one they are not made anymore and are still in demand.

the tank scale would need to be rebuilt or find a better used one.

someone on this board might have decals

Use of Durawood slats begins around 1996-97, if I remember correctly. There's some discussion about this a few pages into the serial number sticker thread as someone is trying to date their grill.

That is called "Durawood" and a Weber product.

I only know of one source for new ones and they would be stainless steel. Use this link to find one of his (Dave Santana) craigslist adds and tell him what you are looking for and he will give you a price with shipping. Otherwise, find a donor grill with good ones to grab them from.

You can just use a solid wood handle.

Again, finding a decent one on another grill is probably your best bet unless someone here is willing to send you one in the mail....same with the Z bars for the shelves.

I had printed on vinyl peal and stick paper and sell replica labels for the tank scale (the regular version you need, but also the "fat" one for the old Summit and some early Platinum/Gold grills and the early "skinny" one used on the very first Genesis 1-5 and early Jr. grills). I also have the warning sticker that goes on the scale itself. $1.50 for the first one and $1.00 each after that.

The design for the regular scale and the warning sticker were courtesy of another member who generously shared his beautiful design work. I designed the others. I offer these at a low price to cover my printing cost - and a little for my time and effort - but mainly to be a help to others who just need one or two for personal grills. While I can't guarantee how long they last, they are professionally printed and on a vinyl type material. As such, they should well outlast home printed inkjet versions.

A little point of interest Durawood was made from recycled milk cartons.

Just Sanded the firebox tonight with an Orbital sander.. Im not sure , but im pretty sure i saw someone who recommended using a wire wheel on a grinder.. Thats way overkill. I used 120grit and it worked fine.. Anyway, i have the black high heat stove paint , I believe its the Ultra.

Do i need primer on any Bare spots on the outside of the firebox (obviously it would be high heat also) before i paint it.. TY

The RUSTOLEUM high heat paints do not require primer. But you should ensure all the grease and grime and carbon buildup is removed and then it is wise to prep it with some type of solvent like Xlene or denatured alcohol.

Big Thank You to Jon for offering these decals for us members.
I grabbed several different ones from him for future restores.

Here are some pictured next to my Junior. My Junior is a 1988 model and has a one-off style tank decal as it's sized in between the two pictured but luckily it's in great shape. These decals are just the ticket to finish off your restores.
