Weber genesis 5500

New to this forum. Thought I would share this, incredibly rare, weber genesis 5500. I found this on a Facebook buy and sell. I currently have it disassembled and am working on the fire box. I've been lurking around this site, getting alot of good input from others. This one is in amazing shape, just missing side extention tables. Hope to have it completed by August.

Dis assembled the stand. Scuffing up the paint and grining away the rust spots. I cant believe how well build these thing are. Very impressive for an almost 30 yr old bbq.

Yes - I was very impressed with the condition of mine. It is just about 100% original except for the tube, flavorizers, and grates. If yours has the flame check and smoker box, you can check out the mods I did to make them much more useable IMHO.

It came with the smoke box stand, that sits on the tube, buy no box. The stand has seen better day tho.

That is the box. It has a bunch of holes in the bottom. You may be missing the little water pan that sits in it. This is a before pic:

The one that was on mine looked far different. I will try and take a picture of it tomorrow. Its possibly for something else that I'm not aware of?

I need help! I am all done sanding down and rust treating the frame, now I'm stuck. I have been looking into "VHT textured" pain products. I think I would look good but it may impede some of the parts that bump up to each other. Anyone have experience with textured paint? If so, is it worth it? Or should I just keep it to a flat finished paint? Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE

I just used Rustoleum high heat gloss on the parts around the firefox and regular Rustoleum gloss on the rest of the frame.

How well did that hold up to the weather? I live in northern Canada and want it to last the long cold winters we have up here

I think the paint I used is the standard around here. Seems to hold up fine so far but my grills rarely see weather, as they are always protected by a roof and cover. Maybe others can report in their durability experiences.

I know I haven't updated in a long time, but this has been a process. Here is an update, currently just putting it all together. Still need to manufacture the wood slats.
