Weber #9930 Grates

Picked up this Summit Platinum this morning for the #9930 Grates. Had to drag it out of a residential junkyard with no wheels on it.

@Steve Hoch I owe you for this idea thank you!
I got my eye on another one. Can never have too many quality grates.

@Cody Bratton I got the swing tables and side burner but not sure it's worth the cost to ship them.

They cleaned up about as nicely as I expected. Not perfect but pretty darn good. Night and day difference between these quality 304 SS grates and the ones I regularly clean up on newer Weber Genesis grills.

You're definitely welcome for the idea. Those cleaned up wonderfully and are about the best, if not the best quality stainless steel grates you can get. The best part? You didn't pay a dime for them.

I know for a fact now that these 9930s hold up over time. I assumed they did but until you dig out and old dirty used pair out of an expired Grill and clean them up it's hard to know for sure.
To anyone who has a pair of 9930s don't be afraid to use them. They will last and last and last.

To be fair, I have seen some that were visibly degraded. I think I can attribute that to some hardcore abuse more than anything though. They do definitely stand the rest of time and all you need is a drill and a couple of different size wire wheels to make them like new again as in Josh's before and after pictures.

Great that you saved those! Still, I can’t help but feeling sad to see that deluxe SS Platinum Summit 4-burner with the rear infrared, side and smoker box burners not get a chance at a new life. They pose a lot of challenges, I understand, but besides the first Summits, they were the best.

My 1st gen didn’t offer that rear infrared, so even though not as robust, there were still at least some improvements in the second generation, particularly with the Platinum edition.

I'm trying to get another one that looks to be in excellent shape with 9930s also. I'm not sure what I'll do with that one but I'd hate to see it go to waste.

Maybe I'll cut these 9930s down for width to fit my Junior. I have a few months to evaluate before I go back with parts to finish it. They may be my best option so far. I also have three pairs of stamped stainless greats that I could use to cut down or QuliMetal. I think if I went with QuliMetal 9mm for the Junior I would order a new pair designed to fit Spirit ii because they are a little bit cheaper and less to cut off. Same depth 17.5 and only about 2 in longer in width to cut off.

What is the diameter of the temp gauge?

I’m looking for something exactly 3.0” OD for my Vieluxe - I bought a 3” Tel-tru but it’s actually larger than the bezel

Thanks
Ray

I'll check it when I get home from work. If I forget remind me later
