The Woodshed, Orange CA

Barb and I went to Huntington Beach, Calif for a long overdue visit to see the kids and grandkids. On the way there we stopped at a place called the “Woodshed” in Orange, Calif which sells firewood and a huge selection of smoking woods.

We met one of the owners, Renea and we found out they’re really into BBQ even giving demos and classes. They also judge and compete.

They have everything from logs for pizza ovens to small bags of chips. They will also customize any wood to any size you want.

Also their wood is air dried vs. Kiln dried that the big box stores sell.

Very interesting visit for sure, if you want to see what they have go to:

www.thewoodshedOC.com their mail order is under SHARPE gourmet cooking wood.

Also my son is a regional sales manager for a group of micro beer breweries and they have a new import beer coming out and had a bunch of promotional giveaways.

So besides the 4 big bags of smoking wood we bought I ended up with 4 cases of beer, 2 cases of hard cider, and as part of the kick off for the new imported beer a Weber 18.5 OTS, he had a garage full to get rid of so I said I’d help out and take one. Can you say dedicated pizza oven.

Our daughter works for Trader Joes and got us 2 cases of wine.

So with all that and our suitcases, coolers etc. Barbs poor Honda Accord was stuffed to the roof.

Here are some pictures I took on our visit to the Woodshed.

Thanks for the info Rich. Sounds like you had a great, successful trip. I get my smoke wood on line so I'll definitely check this place out.

Cliff, any day now, they're going to be trimming the cherry trees. On your next trip up to the bay area, bring your pick up truck

Rich: That 18.5" OTS will make an excellent dedicated Pizza Kettle Oven. If you don't mind driving to San Diego on your way home, I can hook you up with a Kettle Pizza Attachment for a great price (member here wants to get rid of his) PM me for the info

The OC Woodshed is indeed very BBQ friendly and excellent supporters of BBQ.
Very unusual if you find a weekend where their pits, or the pits of others, are not lit and cooking great BBQ.

The CBBQA is proud to have the OC Woodshed as one of our class sponsors.
Throughout the year, we hold our BBQ101 and BBQ102 classes at the Woodshed.

Thanks for the additional update Bob. Like I said I was impressed with the overall knowledge that Renea had on the competition side of BBQ, much more than myself.

Sounds like to need to take a bigger rig the next time you head over the hills!

LOL, I've got a Dodge pickup, only problem is it can't pass a gas station without getting a sip. Barbs Honda gets in the low 30s the truck not half that. It sure was 10 pounds in a 9 pound car though.

How cool is that? The Woodshed looks cool. ...and free grills?!? What a great trip!

I recommend the judge class for anyone interested in BBQ especially competitors. I learned a lot when I went at the Jack (Famous Dave was a classmate!) ...and I am just a backyard guy.

Dwain,

Agree completely with competitors taking the judging class, the one that leads to a certification. And then... actually judge some contest. That is where you really learn.

This judging class is not your normal class... (heck... are any of us 'normal' ;))
This one is over and way above and beyond the normal class. No certifications are issued, just pins.
There have been other such classes in the states, but I don't think any measure up to this one.
Chris was at the Alameda class 2 weeks ago.
