Stars & Stripes Kettle

So did something I have never done and that is bought a new Weber. I have bought many older used Webers and Refurbished, just last week found an early 70's Kettle (needs some help), but seen this one and said I NEEDED IT!. Wife asked what is it, I was excited to get it, the box is in the living room right now. She knows I never buy a new grill. However I felt like the father from the Christmas Classic "A Christmas Story" when the father got the "Major Award" the leg lamp. "It's indescribably beautiful!" and "It reminds me of the Fourth of July!" I'll assemble in the morning and after seeing the wife's face when I told her how much I paid, ( she knows my budget) I may be at the Courthouse on Monday. LOL

Help me out here Brenda. I just bought the Stealth Grill, and I bought the the WSK E6 from Mark Foreman. I need a rational from a woman's perspective why I need this grill. I'm thinking I need to come up with something better than it being a Bar-B-Kettle. Obviously it's a Red, White & Blue but I need some help with the fact that it would be a third grill in as many months
I am not Brenda, but you could tell her (@John Burns, take notes)

“Weber made this grill to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, American flags were prominently displayed during the celebrations of the 19th Amendment’s ratification in 1920. reinforcing the message that granting women the right to vote was a fulfillment of American democratic ideals.

I just want to show my support for a woman’s right to vote,”

Duh, Chuck - July 4* is right around the corner and this would be SO CUTE to decorate! 🤣
The first 2 are TOOLS - she loves the food they put out right? This one is DECOR... at least to begin with.

LOL Honestly, I came here to suggest this to Anthony, after thinking about his earlier post.
Would definitely be hard to sneak in, but what if you pitch it as a July 4 decoration? It's patriotic, sure to be an attention-getter, and
really would look great with flowers, streamers etc. Maybe let her enjoy it a little bit, then later you can move it to its rightful place with the
rest of your collection. :giggle:

I'm trying to decide how to handle mine - I was thinking maybe move it to front yard on July 4 and cook hotdogs for the neighbors,
but I'm not sure yet if it will be a looker or a cooker. Mine may wind up decorated too. LOL Either way, it will for sure be on display!

*Memorial Day comes earlier, if you can't wait.
And this in NO WAY is meant to be a plan of deception!
Dang, Brenda. You nailed it.

I feel like I'm collateral damage here...now I want one.

Happy Mother's Day!

I saw these at my local Wally World. Earlier that morning I had given one of my kettles to my neighbor so I had space and I bought one.

I'm a little unsure if I want to keep it though. All of my kettles have the one touch system except the one I restored from 1981. I don't use that one specifically because it doesn't have an ash catcher. So I found myself wondering if I'd ever actually use it.

I grew up with daisy wheel bottom vents, much more fine “tuneable” than one touch system, not as easy to clean but, the science of “pointing the long leg in the wind and top vent downwind.” was brilliant and I kind of miss it with the one touch.

JMO, but looks like a ragtag plan to get rid of inventory to me.
Wait you think a 3 vent throwback with an American flag theme was a plan to get rid of old inventory?
I went with a creative way to give Walmart something fun to compete with the Lowe’s Stealth model.
What do I know though?🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi all. I'm new here. I actually found this great forum looking for info on the Star Spangled Kettle a couple of weeks ago when I noticed it on Walmart's site. I have been happy with my little Smoky Joe for a while but could not say no to this grill. I ordered one and have been enjoying burgers, dogs and steaks on it for the last 10 days. I am cooking a Tbone on it at the moment. Loving this grill. I added some handles to the dampers to make life easier for me.

Have a good one, all.

Beautiful grill - you are putting it through it's paces! 🤩

Well for starters, it's actually kind of ugly. You have two different whites that stands out bad. It looks like a circus tent to me. Most people don't want the old school method of 3 daisy wheels they also want an ash catcher. Not sure if they have the p vents, but Iove mine. I don't need that much control on a 10 minute cook which my grill does most the time. Steaks, burgers, brats, and dogs. I use a vortex for chicken so wide open is all I need.

There where probably a lot of blue lids with white bowls laying around. If not the white stars and bowl stripes should be the same color. I just don't dig it much to be honest.

Having thousands of spare blue and white parts laying around seems unlikely to me. Differences in the white color may be due to how the blue bleeds through the white, or different whites being used on each part.

My take is that it’s not as cool as the one I saw at Weber HQ years ago, but I understand the limitations in trying to do this affordably in mass quantities. I say good on Weber for doing something fun and different!

That's way, way, way, better.

The one they are selling is the ivory kettle not actually white, and looks to be the deep ocean blue lid. They used leftovers of something to make these. My guess is leftover stock, and enamel coating. The stars are also way better looking, and not transparent. The blue is also much nicer. Looks metallic. That's what they need to strive for. I'd buy that bad boy.

To you. Not everyone sees it that way.

Well... okay. I guess you have a point there - so thanks for putting that image in my head! LOL
I don't know what "most people" want but I am sure not everyone wants exactly the same thing.

We are not going to agree on this. And that's fine.

Vintage Weber kettles are my hobby and I love this grill, simply because it's a fun throwback.
But its a $149 Walmart special. There are small imperfections which I am ignoring.
When I spent almost $500 for the 70th Anniversary Diner Green, I reported every little flaw - and Weber made them right.

I think Bruno nailed the reason for this grill. I doubt Weber expected this to appeal to everyone.
I think this one will be picked up by the people who buy throwaway grills but are willing to spend a little extra for the novelty, then
next year they will be on to something else. :)

And I know that when I pass, mine will be in immaculate condition (IF these tornadoes stay away) and maybe some future member
of a Weber fan club will be happy to pick it up. Or not. But I, and others, will enjoy it in the meantime.
