Stainless Steel Grate Throwdown Challenge Results

I am kind of surprised that they are still for sale at this price. My first thought was that they would be one of those discontinued products that go on super sale to clear the inventory before becoming "UNAVAILBLE" indefinitely. But they seem to still be pushing them out. And interestingly, they are not removing the huge markdown from the pricing as often times happens when a big increase in demand occurs on Amazon.
When I ordered mine a week ago the delivery date was already Dec. 26 - Jan 1 so I mentally prepared myself that the order will be cancelled but I’m holding onto hope.

That makes sense. Those stamped grates can't take much of a beating before weld breakage.
Well I bought Stainless stamped grates from BBQ parts in FL 8 years ago and they are on my daughters 1000 might have the wrong company way to long ago. They were not Weber they were around 42 bucks which at the time was a good deal nothing like the rods now which are alot cheaper but they weren't then. No issues with them at all not one weld is broken it was a quality product.

Just found the site they are hanging it up probably can't compete with the Chinese companies they had a great product.

It would never have even crossed my mind that those heavy grates could possibly get knocked out of square, I've definitely never seen it before until you showed that picture. Crazy stuff.
I have seen it on some 7mm grates before, but no 9mm ones.

That is too bad. BBQParts is one grill parts store that I have ordered stuff from other than Amazon.

That's when I ordered mine too, scheduled to be here tomorrow.
I ordered 6 sets. I have received three of them. I have three more scheduled for Saturday. I expect to get all of them. When I ordered, I opted for slower delivery to gain some promotional digital services points. I was and am not in a rush for them and since they still have them as available, I figure I will be good.

I've always liked the Weber stamped stainless steel grates. I have a couple sets of them that are well over twenty years old now and still going strong, as well as a couple sets of brand new ones that I got for a highly discounted price. I'm sure that there are some decent aftermarket versions out there as well.

I have picked up a lot of grills with stamped SS grates with the welds broken. But, I am guessing for the most part that they are aftermarket ones with the biggest problem. It seems some sets are thicker and sturdier than others and those seem to be the most problematic. I have seen a new set of Weber branded ones that seem to be on the thicker/sturdier end of the spectrum.

I don't recall ever picking up a used grill with SS rod grates that had a broken weld however.

Interesting, I'm not sure how any of that works. My wife and I both have Amazon accounts, but I don't have Prime and she does. When I order things I just have to make sure I don't pay shipping or I just have her order it for me. I do know that if I order something from Amazon it always shows up eventually.

That’s strange. I ordered mine Thursday night and got them Sunday morning.

I figured out my “issue”.

Since I ordered more than 2, the shipping date went up dramatically.
For example, when I go to order one or two right now, they arrive in two days. If I change it to three or more, shipping date goes way up.

I don't know. If you're picking up Genesis Gold and Platinum series grills, those came with factory stamped stainless steel grates. I've also picked up grills where those grates had broken welds and they seemed at least to me, to be the factory grates. I think it's just one of those things where they either last forever or they don't. The only common denominator that I've noticed is that the overall condition of the grill seems to correspond to the condition of those grates.

Here is one of my sets. I ordered it on the 15th with the promotional credit with delayed delivery. I expected it to be a fairly long delay with Christmas approaching. Some of the grates I ordered that way have already arrived, but three are in this status as shown below. All the grates were ordered individually.

Here's an example of how good your phone is at spying on you. This is a screen shot of my phone, the ads at the top are for two things I've been talking about on here lately but haven't searched for on that site. View attachment 123334
That’s nothing.

I was at a family Christmas party last weekend. All the older teens were wearing baggy fit jeans because that’s what’s back in style now (back from when I was that age).

The next day, while driving in the car I verbally said to my wife “Did you see Tyler’s girlfriend? Looked like she was wearing JNCO jeans last night.”
I was only half joking because back in the day JNCO was the undisputed king of the absolutely insanely wide leg jeans. What she was wearing was baggy, but not actually JNCO, but I was just trying to use hyperbole as humor to score a cheap laugh and nostalgia points from my wife.

The following day, while scrolling on Facebook, what’s the first ad it throws at me? None other than JNCO jeans.

Never searched it. Never even searched clothes or jeans or pants or fashion or gifts or style or anything. Just said it. Out loud. Once. In the car. With my phone in my pocket.

Not the first time this kinda thing happened either over the years, but just the most recent.

Coincidences? Maybe. Maybe not.

It’s no coincidence. I once was talking to my administrative assistant about needing a brace for my sore elbow. Minutes later my phone rang with a robocall saying it was in response to my inquiry about medically related braces. I never did a single search nor looked at anything about braces on my phone or computer.
