Spaghetti Sauce on the gasser

Man it’s hot here! Over 100 every day for the last two weeks with no relief in sight.
Okay I’m done whining.

Wanted to cook something different than the standard grill fare.

Decided to make some spaghetti sauce on the gasser so I wouldn’t heat up the house.

Used a pound of 80/20 and a half pound of mild Italian sausage.
Cooked up some diced onion and garlic in a little EVOO in the Dutch oven then added the meat to brown.
Threw in some diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and toward the end some tomato paste.
Added powdered garlic and Italian seasoning and at the end a boat load of fresh oregano, basil and rosemary (I put in three times what’s shown on the cutting board) from our garden.

Cooked the pasta on the side burner which is the first time I’ve used it since I got the grill two years ago.
Came out really good. Enjoyed something a little different.

Stay cool out there.

Nice way to stay cool Rich & Barb. spaghetti looks perfect.
We're enjoying time out on the deck this evening. It cooled off some today. Stay cool down there!

Looks really good Rich, definitely not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of grilling. I may just have to give that a try soon.

Barbequed Spaghetti, now we're talking. Looks mighty good, sure hope you get a break in the weather soon, 100+ for days isn't very much fun

Great looking sauce Rich! Know what you mean about the heat. Here's our forecast this week!

Ouch! That's hot! I'm familiar with Redding and Lake Shasta Barb's brother had a nice home there. I remember how hot it got in the summer. What's weird though we're at 5600 feet and in the 15 years we've lived here I've never seen more than maybe 2 or 3 days in the summer when we would hit 100. So far we've had 15 days in a row over 100 and it's just June.
Stay cool my friend.

Just curious, how did you drain the grease after browning the meat?

I use to think the side burner on Gas'ers was stupid but I love mine now. I use it all the time from starting my chimney to sauteing onions for steaks and burgers, etc..

That pasta looks delicious Rich! I lived in a little town SE of Vegas for 8 yrs so I am very familiar with how hot it gets especially at desert level. My hubby just picked up a portable air conditioner to help combat the heat wave expected here over the next 5 days. Our pups aren't too fond of over 90 degrees and no air conditioning.

It's not everyday that someone decides to make spaghetti sauce in a cast iron Dutch oven on the grill. That looks delicious. I use my side burner for pasta sides, sautéing vegetables, even lighting charcoal sometimes. It's become a very useful part of my gas gril.

Yeah, if I had consistent 100°F weather, I wouldn't want to heat up the house either. Love the plated photo…I'd be in heaven sopping up your spaghetti sauce with a piece of that garlic bread.
