Some good bbq on a bittersweet day

Bob Correll

R.I.P. 3/31/2022
Today we celebrated the life of retired army Master Sergeant Dale Strauser, my dearly loved brother-in-law.
He served 28 years of service to our country and 3 tours of duty in Vietnam.

After the service my family gathered at Dexter Bar-B Que in Dexter, MO.
The town I grew up in until 1961 when, at age 14, we moved to St Louis..
I went with pulled pork with slaw on Texas toast and a side of potato salad.
Our son had this:

And wife Jo had this:

Sauce choices were vinegar based, mustard based, hot, and KC sweet.
The food was excellent, as were the sides, prices reasonable, and portions generous.
I got a kick out of the menu's front page:

As we get older, sadly, family gatherings are often after the passing of a loved one.
But the family love felt and shared today is just what MSG Strauser would have wanted, he was a very, very special man.

People Sleep Peacefully in Their Beds at Night Only Because Rough Men Stand Ready to Do Violence on Their Behalf. May GOD rest his soul.

Deepest condolences to your family Bob. There is a special place reserved for our soldiers in heaven.

Gosh, Dale is almost the fitting image of my father who passed away about 28 years ago. He, too, was a military veteran (WWII - staff sergeant).

Thanks for posting, Bob, and condolences to you, and all of your family.

Condolences to your family. But something like that is what I would like to happen when I go. Have a party and talk about me, lies and all, just have a great time.

Sorry for you loss Bob. My dad whos been gone now for 34 years always said that the best days of his life was during WWII when he was a staff sergeant in the Army. Your BIL gave a lot of his life to serve and protect all of us.

I am also very sorry for your loss Bob. There are so many to be thankful for. My dad is a veteran also and just had quadruple bypass surgery last week. You never know what you appreciate until its staring you in the face and you may lose something you took for granted. Happy to say my dad is doing good and may be home for Easter.

I missed this post until this morning Bob. So sorry for your loss. What a touching photo of Dale. Nostalgia swept over me when I looked at it. Attaining the rank of Sergeant Major during an extremely tough time in our country's history is an incredible accomplishment.

Saying goodbye to our loved ones is always tough. At 60 I know more people on the other side than on this side. Hang in there.
