SMOKEFIRE | Second Generation for the Australian Market

Hi Weber family!

As we get closer to the launch of the all new SmokeFire, a question on many people’s lips is what is different about the models we’re getting in Australia and New Zealand? Well for both countries, in a world first, the SmokeFire barbecues available will be the second generation of this product; so cast aside any doubt or reviews you’ve heard previously!

Forget the SmokeFire, did you guys notice this little morsel on the Weber Australia website?

Hi! Im from Melbourne AU and yes they have just released the Smokefire here!. It’s currently available for preorder with general release in November.

They have had many questions from many of us that have been keeping an eye on initial issues and how they’ve been addressed by Weber. They are saying that all these issues ’and more’ have been addressed in this ‘brand new’ model exclusive to AU/NZ.

Don’t have specifics as to what the unique difference are - I did think it might market spiel for the inclusion of the GBS grates, however these were also included in UK/Europe. 😁

I’m really keen to get one, I believe Weber will have addressed key issues you guys have had to deal with ... but I’m looking for it to be replacement for our current gas bbq per its advertised ability to reach searing temperatures. Some feedback so far indicates it may not be so practical as a ‘one stop shop’ as many are hoping for.

Weber here in the US has been nothing but very helpful. The active users on here have upgraded all their components to basically be 2nd generation grill but we just don't get the GBS grates  Coming from a Big Green Egg - I am extremely happy with my unit as it outperforms it in many ways - especially with better smoky flavors. Also, we sold our gas grill. The SF performs just as good as a gas grill but with added flavor! I would not hesitate in buying it! Keep in touch and let us know how it goes for you.

I agree with what LKruse says about the 2nd generation grill but I switched from charcoal grills and smokers to the EX6. I got mine in July and it didn't have the mechanical fixes but it works great on low and slow and hot and fast cooks. It will flat out sear steaks and it doesn't take long to go from 350 to 600 for a reverse sear. I sold my charcoal cookers and the Smokefire IS my "one stop shop" cooker. The taste of food coming off it is outstanding.

Thank you both @LKruse and @Lew Newby for your feedback. Sounds more encouraging that indeed I can enjoy facets of current gas grilling along with all the added benefits of smoking low and slow!

From all I’ve read Weber have been fantastic with their support (as they seem to excel in!) and they are really standing behind their newest product. Ive had similar experience with them here locally also.

I might burn through a few pellets initially but think we will be able to easily adapt to the best methods suited to the WSF!

I think I’m just a little nervous as my wife does the occasional cook (high heat steak and sausages grill ups!) and her one demand is the new grill should be just as easy for her to operate. She ain’t the low and slow cook type of gal 👧 😂

@MattyM Your wife will be just fine grilling on the SF provided that you periodically clean it. Overall it is much safer than grilling with gas and with much more precision. What 3rd party brand of pellets do you all have available in Australia?

Sounds like it will be an all round win then!!

in my early research I’ve found we can get Tregear, Pit Boss, B&B, Lumberjack 3rd party pellets. There may be some others.

Weber are offering a pre order deal via redemption for 2 free bags of their pellets, so I hope to start with those and then try some of the others.

Yeah, Chris, that is a pretty interesting development. I guess if you really love your Q and want a "built-in" look it is a neat idea. To me, I like to have my Q200 on a stand that it can be removed from and swapped with my CharQ. I had a Q3200 for a while and liked it. But I like the versatility and medium size of the 200/2000 series the best.

I am glad that Weber is being a lot more upfront with our friends Down Under about the SmokeFire teething problems and their solutions to them. I think with all the changes they mention, the SmokeFire has gone from a questionably unsafe device to an excellent - if a little temperamental - pellet grill with innovations others don't have. We have seen some really impressive results and those who have stuck it out to make the upgrades/patches seem very happy now. I still like my Rec Tec very much, but if I were starting out now, the SmokeFire would be hard not to go with. There is a leftover display model 600 at a Lowes 35 miles from me for only $850. You would have to do all the component swaps, but that it a strong deal.
