Skyline Lid

Yea i have 2 more end caps that were powder coated that look pretty good. I was gonna save them for the 3000 but maybe Ill swap them just to get this one done.
That might be the way to go for now. You can probably strip the paint off those with brake cleaner without hurting the powder coating.

Ok guys. Dont use CRC Silicone Spray on your lid if you spray painted the end caps. Eats the paint ....
That's a bummer. Some kind of chemical incompatibility. The lid panel (porcelain part) DID look really nice, though. Wonder if you could spray a cloth with the silicone stuff and wipe the lid panel down with it, avoiding the end caps? Being high heat, my thoughts are the silicone coating will last fairly well on the lid panel - so I don't think it was a total failure - just need to avoid the paint during application.

I pretty much did that but I got a little greedy and spayed some directly on the porcelain at the top and as my rag was soaked i wiped the side panel ...

Not sure if I want to take the chance with it . Im actually glad I did it now vs havimg the whole thing together and then doing that as the final step.

A thin coat of motor oil will do the same thing and I don't think it would hurt painted areas. It is also pretty darn heat resistant and should last a while.

Look forward to seeing if it does anything. I do know that @Bruce tried using the dye technique on durawood to no avail. The durawood was not at all absorbent.

They look pretty good to me. Put a havey coat and let it sit over night. Juat wiped them down. Not sure how long that stuff lasts but the grill will be covered so should be a while
