Rotodamper

Is willing to print out a rotodamper for me? I emailed Ralph but got no reply. I would be more than happy to pay someone a fair price for one.
Thanks!

90 views and no replies.. I assume the Heatermeter/rotodampers fell out of favor with the rise of pellet smokers?

The Roto Damper was never uploaded to git hub so you could download the print files and have someone print you one. You can get the Adapt-A-Damper print files off the web and then find a printer to print device. I would go that route. Heatermeter is still the best solution for ceramic cookers imo. Still use mine for long cooks and have been very happy. Only time I don`t use mine is when I cook burgers. Be careful when purchasing the servo required for any of the dampers. There are lots of crapping clones out there.

I am looking for the files for the rotodamper as well. Ralph made one for me years ago but the collar on my cracked and I would like to print it if possible.

I am looking for 2 Rotodampers as well. The files or someone to print them would be great as well. But I can print if I need to. Ralph printed my original years ago. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe this is what you want. There is also a file for Tom Kole`s damper too. I currently use the Tom Kole damper. It works great for my small Prinojr ceramic grill. The RD3 looks like it`s based off the last Tom Kole design. Cooked 20lb bird Monday and the heatermeter performed perfectly as usual. I am in the process of printing out parts for the RD3 damper through library system, where i live. There is one file for the disk that looks like it might be too large and it's looking like I might need to print somewhere else or edit the .stl to remove writing on disk which makes file large. I have also used to Adapt- a damper and it work good to. I have a friend who built a large smoker and that damper works best on his big smoker. I used it on my grill, and it work well after Wil printed me a disk with only half the opening as his original. That made that damper sing as well.

Want to add one more thing about these files. I have personally printed the Tom Kole damper from these files. I have not printed any of the RD3 files. No time right now and printers at library are down for a few weeks. Prior to printing anything that has not been downloaded from thing universe or from the creator, open files in your favorite cad creator and review. When holidays are over, I will review RD3 files and then decide what I will do after that. Too much going on right now to start printing.

The Rd3, the Rotordamper, I believe was the first damper made for the Heatermeter. Then others started to make their own damper variations

Gary, thanks for the files. the attachments have the same name. not sure if that was intended...

I ended up finding these RD3 files on this board. I haven't had a chance to print/verify. But these are probably what we are looking for regarding RD3. https://tvwbb.com/threads/stl-files-for-roto-damper-and-older-heatermeter-case.99662/#post-1175523

If you are looking for the case for your heatermeter, then you can find those on GitHub.

You will want the hm-case-43.scad.

OpenSCAD can export to .stl
To do this, once the file is open in OpenSCAD, you will need to render it. (Design->Render) on Mac. I'm on a Mac Studio and it took a good minute to finish. Then File->Export->Export as .stl

Hope this helps.

I saw those as well and did print that damper. These files are small enough so my local library can print them for me. Have done a couple of cooks, it looks like this damper as well as yours, Tom Koles works well. Again, I will say to do some cooks without the heater meter to see where you set dampers and base which damper you want to make based on what you see. If your grill dampers are open a lot, then a higher air volume might work better. My grill works well on the Tom Kole v2 and this version of the RD3 works well too. Your damper works well with the reduced air damper you printed for me. My buddy's big smoker uses the adapt-a-damper for his control and the control is a flat line. Yes, you have to mess with the fan settings, but if the area of the intake and exhaust dampers are not open much, then a smaller air flow fan and damper should be your choice. I like my PID controls to operate in the 15 to 70% range. You're never going to get good control if damper is slamming open or closed. With all dampers I have been lucky to tune them well enough to keep a flat line and not have the control constantly chase its tail. When at setpoint, my control is such that the damper is the main component controlling the grill. The fan usually only comes into play when I open the grill to check what I am cooking.

I found this on Thingiverse. It doesn't seem to have the "RD3 FREE" plastered all over the parts.

You "found" this, LOL! Kinda funny how you still have an issue giving credit where credit is due to the creator? You just had to remove RD3 and repost the design didn't you? YOU were the only one selling my design for a profit! Hope life smacks you in the face one day for being so deceitful, you are the reason I quit posting here...

I was selling the Adapt-a-Damper at one point. I gave that design to anyone who wanted to sell it. Cap'n Bry was selling them at his shop. Believe me, I never made a profit on selling dampers. I just wanted to give everyone the opportunity to build in an open source community. Sorry I hurt your feelings. Also, I did not post those RD3 files on Thingiverse. I thought you finally did.

You didn't hurt my feelings, you hurt this community by driving away a solid contributor with your aggressive and rude tactics. Bye.
