Replacing a 310 Genesis cookbox with 330

After converting everything to the 330 front panel and the side burner, and installing a new igniter...it doesn't fire up to my dismay 😞

What could I be doing wrong? I can smell gas when I open the burner valves.

If you smell gas, first determine the gas is coming from the correct place for what you want it to do, then check the sparkers. Just because you hear clicking does not mean you're getting sparks where they're needed. Carefully try manually lighting a burner, then another to determine each valve is doing what it's supposed to. Once affirmed trace the igniters

@JamesMT I would convert it to an E330. The sear burner is a game changer.

You already have and would use:
3 main burners
3 knobs
3 main valves
E330 cookbox

You will need:
E330 manifold ( without valves )
Sear burner
Sear valve
Sear knob
front control panel with the extra cut-out for a sear burner.
Igniter kit for the E330 ( 4 wire)

Sear Burner: $25

Sear Valve: $25

Sear Knob: $10

Igniter set for the E330 that has four outputs. $22

I believe I have an extra E330 bare manifold.
I believe I have an extra E330 control panel, but all the markings have worn off.
If I can dig these out of my garage, I'd send them for shipping costs, say $25 to $30 or so. maybe less.

So for about $120 or so you could upgrade it to an E330.

edit: if you are considering this, don't buy anything until I confirm I have the manifold and control panel.
Way to go, DanHoo! You are being generous and very helpful; it's what makes TVWBB a great place!

@JamesMT I agree with Larry. Try to light the burners by hand with a stick lighter.

I would remove the flavorizer bars so you can see each of the burners and start with just one burner. If it lights and the flames look good, move on and test each one, one at a time.

Once you know the burners are lighting we can look into adjusting the igniters. Sometimes they need to be moved a little bit front-to back on the burner tube so the spark is sparking over the gas flowing out of the burner.

I got it to light!!! 😁. Ignited it with a lighter first then tried the igniter...worked like a charm. Just in time for the long weekend!

The only missing I noticed is the heat shield on the front side of the cookbox. Is this really necessary as its a $30 part. Would a temporary solution with aluminum foil suffice?

IDK about foil but you could simply pop riven a piece of aluminum on that part

Left side inside is a stainless heat shield. I made one from some stainless sheet scrap from a dishwasher. I posted dimensions a while ago.let me see if I can find them

Here it is. It is called a sear burner heat shield

I wonder why that generation has the heat shield but the Genesis II generation doesn’t. Maybe they found it isn’t really necessary?
