Reccos for a lid hinge for my 22.5 WSM

Hello folks. Hope all of my fellow smokers are doing well. After smoking on my 22 for 10 years I've decided I'd like to add a lid hinge. There are a number of choices out there from multiple manufacturers and varying price ranges. Given the selections, I'm looking for recommendations from actual users. My WSM lives outside but always covered. What are you using and are you happy with it? Also, if you use a lid hinge do you also use latches between the lower and mid section to stabilize it and minimize tipping? Thank you.

Unknown BBQ is the only one I knew of. I just realized Hunsaker made one, I can only speak of the Unknown BBQ’s, which the design seems to have been copied by many others. (I don’t know if theirs is the original, just an assumption)

I’m really happy with mine. Took a minute to get used to, but I’m convinced this should be standard on all WSM’s from factory.

I don’t have latches on mine…I would recommend it though. If you’re not careful, it’s not hard for the cylinder to get off balance and fall into the bottom section.

Thank you Todd and Brett. I've looked at a number of hinges all of the "Unknown BBQ" style. I'm actually looking for something with a narrower profile. That is, one that does not protrude so far out the back of the unit. Problem, I think I have, is that this style will not fit under my current cover. Guess I'll keep looking. Surprised I only received response from the two of you. Thank again for responding.

I'll add to the list of the happy Unknown BBQ (WSM & Kettle) Hinge users. Bought mine thru Jason Whitcomb on his Unknown BBQ team's website back in October 2014.

I had a nice “chat” with Jason when I got mine. Straight shooter, nice chap! Considering getting one for the 22” kettle on the “Overperformer” but, I’ve had way too many things going on to fool with that right now.
I got a nice deal from another member here for an Akorn hinge but, have not installed that OR the drawbolts for the WSM.
I hate being too busy to do that kind of thing! Maybe it would be easier if I had any kind of shop space! Dreaming of a bigger garage…

I went with the Unknown BBQ for my WSM18, very well made product. The original cover was a bit small after the hinge was installed so i just bought a cover for a 22”. It’s a little baggy and too long but goes on and off easily.
