Quick partial disassembly of Weber genesis 1000

Anybody spray the large steel axel with rust reformer? It was covered in rust and I sanded it all off. It rusted again immediately - I’m also thinking of using a galvanizing cold spray but not sure if that is the right thing to use

After I'm done with the axles I spray them with clear coat.

Ordered all new fasteners from bolt depot. They sell 6/6 nylon washers which are heat resistant up to 400 degrees. Would I be better off using one of the black washers from the frame for the bolt that goes into the cookbox? Wouldnt the new nylon washers I got from bolt depot melt in that spot?

I opt for painting the axles silver. I leave them in the drill (and just barely enough axle in the drill chuck to hold it) and spin them to paint them. Then just leave it in the drill to dry by propping it against something.

My rehab project got put on hold for a while. I restarted last week with painting my stripped to bare aluminum end caps. Did 2 coats of high heat ultra rustolem and put them inside to cure for almost a week before I touched them again. There were some slight imperfections with some splatter marks so I lightly buffed them out with scotch brite pads. Went to paint them and one light swipe of acetone on a shop cloth to clean it took off all the paint. What did did I do wrong?

Well, it looks like acetone is a thinner for Rustoleum HH Ultra paint. I imagine you can let it dry and repaint it as is.

Ended up removing the new paint, much easier than removing the original. chat GPT suggested I use a high heat primer prior painting and cleaning with denatured alcohol or mineral spirits. Ever use a primer? It also suggested a proper curing from heat would have prevented this

I will vary with Chat GPT. I don't like mineral spirits for prep cleaning. IMO it leaves a slight "film". After all it's just diesel that "knows somebody". Actually more akin to K1 kerosene.
