Quick Burgers before my trip

Hi All,

I'm leaving on a trip to NC to shoot the foliage and with so many to do(s) I needed something quick last night. Burgers was the choice so out came the SJS. I used the Omaha Steaks irradiated beef and they turned out great but a little too fatty. I realize now that if I'm going to cook burgers medium/medium rare I don't need a fatty grind. I will be trying ground sirloin next....

So on to the pics:

I bought this at the Omaha Steaks store - it is delicious on the burgers:

Burgers on - side one:

And then on to side two - never covered them because I didn't need to cook them well done:

And my plate, Kaiser burger buns and some Sea Salt and Vinegar kettle chips on the side:

Thanks for looking!

Best,

Great looking burgers!
I want to ask, what camera and setup did you use to take your grill and finished pictures? The detail and warm colors of your grill pictures are awesome.
Along with upping my bbq/smoke/grill skills I want to post excellent photos of my cook.

Thanks Walt! I have attached the camera metadata showing all the parameters below. I used a tripod for all shots and focused manually on specific points in the images. The first is the data for the second grill shot (the first was pretty much the same). Notice in the flash section that no flash was used and the exposure was 4-seconds and bumped by +1.3EV (stops):

The plate image metadata is below. For this one I did use flash but notice that it was "bounce flash". I bounced the flash off a piece of white foam board held above and to the rear of the plate. I don't recommend using flash unless you really know how to do this bounce thing though.

Those patties look good! Great pics too!
Do you really believe tripode is indispensable?

Thanks Enrico. Yes I do. Using a tripod is like having three hands and five legs :). A tripod allows you to repeat shots with great accuracy and they help to steady the camera for those longer exposures. The also help improve my compositions....

The only time I don't use one is when I'm doing "street" photography.

Jose, those are some gooood lookin' burgers! What part of NC are ya headed to?

Thanks Phil. I'm basing just about six miles SW of Asheville. I plan on doing a lot of waterfall shots, which might be interesting given the weather forecast. I will go as far up north as Linville, weather permitting. Then SW to the Graveyard Fields and maybe to the elks in Catalooche. It's all about the weather, supposed to get pretty gnarly. What are you hearing on the weather from the locals for the next week?

Best,

Jose

Jose,
The Brevard area near Asheville has some beautiful waterfalls (Triple Falls, Hooker Falls, etc.), most just a short hike from the road. The early part of the week might be wet for you but the rest looks really nice. I've got a few pics from a trip we took a couple of months ago that I could shoot to you if you've never been in that area.
