Hey everyone! Just picked up another q, the second in a week 😜
I'm planning to keep only one, but the deal was good enough to jump on. $35 with the stand and cover. Cover is about toast, but everything else just needs a good cleaning and some paint to look and function perfectly. First job was replacing the ignitor, that was easy as I had a leftover piezo from a previous resto and was able to make it work. Second was cleaning the burner. I wanted to make sure everything was functioning before cleaning and doing cosmetics. After 15 minutes with an acetylene torch tip cleaner, it is working great. So far I'm pretty pleased overall!

Me, too. We were coming home once and just down the street from me there was one sitting at the curb. I slammed on the brakes so hard the wife almost got whiplash.

(not really, but it did surprise her)
 
More progress. The paint was peeling in a few spots with corrosion getting underneath, so I'm using aircraft stripper to get the old paint off. Thinking I'll repaint it red, just because I can.PXL_20231104_162711282.jpgPXL_20231104_174900654.jpg
I used the summit 650 to cook the old dirty grate, making some great progress with a metal scraper and wire cup

Just cooked the other half of the grate. Fun fact, it's 50* and cloudy here today, but if you forget to set a timer and leave everything running on the 650 summit, it gets HOT and the grates get CLEAN!1000004358.jpg1000004357.jpg
 
Looking really good! It will make a VERY nice keeper grill. They just are seldom worth it for resale, as people just won't pay any kind of fair price in my experience.

What do you see for resale value? Living in the lakes region of NH there is a large amount of campers and they seem to sell for a decent price in season because of this. Or at least they appear to sell decent, I haven't tried yet

Both, higher gloss and somewhat wet at that point. I hate to say it, but I'm not all that satisfied with it. Felt and looked smooth, but the gloss is showing an the injections. I just might end up redoing it

Your pictures look better than it sounds like how you feel!

Pretty much, once the original finish is gone, you have to choose between using a cup brush on a grinder and get virtually ALL of the original finish off OR pay the $ to have it sand blasted, also removing the old finish. Wire brushing will give you a smooth finish, whereas sandblasting will have a slightly rougher finish, maybe closer to original. @Bruce can probably post a picture of one he did in red some years ago where he ground off the original finish, used gloss and came up with a really sharp, shiny red finish.

Your red IS very nice!
 
I assume that is after treating it with paint thinner. My first thought was that you didn't use High Temp paint and it blistered. LOL
