"Orange" Chicken

When I see that title these days, it conjures up the image of my kids' favorite dish at our local Chinese restaurant. Tonight, we decided on chicken, needing to be a bit healthier after a week of cruise line buffets!! I had a bunch of oranges on the tree to use, so I put together a marinade with orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, olive oil, garlic, ginger and a touch of salt. After a couple of hours in the "sauce", these chicken quarters went on indirect at about 400 degrees:

I added a bit of honey to some reserved marinade, and after devotedly brushing this mixture onto the chicken every 10 minutes, I was rewarded with this after about 40 minutes total:

To be served with sides of quinoa, and steamed broccoli........if it turns out terrible, I'll post back here and warn all of you not to try it!! :)

Just in case anyone was concerned......turned out very nice! The orange flavor really came through, and I forgot how much I like quinoa (and how simple it is!!)

WOW!! That's some nice looking chicken and will be giving that a try will soon. It looks delicious Rich.

That's a fine chicken cook. Nice new way to use a marinade. I usually always go for Italian or greek marinade with chicken, will have to try yours out!

Your chicken looks superb.
We eat so much chicken around here - will have to try that.
Would enjoy the flavor change.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Many of my inspirations come from epicurious.com. I say "inspirations" because I rarely have all of the ingredients that they list, but usually can find a way to take the spirit of one of their recipes and make it work for me. For this one, I didn't have any of the greens called for, and I subbed ginger for garlic, etc......

Weber on!!

Great looking bird Rich. I have done something similar with lemon in the past (we have a Meyer lemon tree) but never with OJ. That is going into our 'try it soon' bucket...

John
