National Days in June

To be kind to everyone, I used all my will power to NOT post all the delicious recipes I have that call for Bourbon, drinks and food. lol

When I read the post about National Bourbon Day my wife was at the grocery store, so I gave her a call and asked her to pick me up a small bottle.

She brought home brandy...to be fair, "bourbon" and "brandy" both contain the letters "b", "r" and "n" and Wisconsin generally leads the nation in brandy consumption, so it was forgivable. And to be honest, bourbon treats me rougher than it used to so maybe it was for the better.;)

I knew there was a reason I was craving an Old Fashioned today. Sadly, out of bourbon. :(

HEADS UP

This time, we have 2, yes 2 days to get ready for the next Nat'l Day

June 16-National Fudge Day

Oh gosh, I want a piece of that cake so badly.
Funny thing about it was it was unplanned until I saw your post. DW made biscuits for yesterday‘s dinner of rotisserie chicken, drip pan potatoes, and grilled asparagus. We had 2 leftover biscuits. So when I told her this morning it was NSSC Day, we knew what was for dessert tonight.

Brad, your wife knew what she was doing. She was getting ready for tomorrow. lol While searching my fudge recipes, I came across a recipe for "Brandy Fudge". If interested, let me know and I will be happy to post the recipe.

Do you ever make bourbon pecan pie?

Jeff, I just checked my recipes and I have around 4 or 5 recipes for pies with bourbon and pecans. And a couple that will come in handy this fall that call for pumpkin. lol Now if I can just get DH to find the time to make a pie. lol

Why did you ask? Have a good recipe or want one?

I’ve used The NY Times , The Spruce Eats, and a couple others. I use extra bourbon and pecan halves. Do you have one that sounds good to you?

Jeff, except for the ones that add pumpkin, the others seem about the same. Lot of sugar, corn syrup, pecans, pie shells bought, pie shells home made. I find the older I get, the less sweet I want my pecan pie.

Jeff, just a little bit ago, it dawned on me. I was looking at recipes for pecan pies that called for Bourbon. So I went to the binder where I keep recipes that call for pecans. I looked in the section dessert/pie. Oh My Goodness!!!!!!! There must be over 200 recipes. Like one calling for Kahlua, another one using walnuts and almonds and pecans. Apples, peaches, berries to name a few fruit. I just found one that maybe will not be too sweet for me and you can probably add bourbon to it. I will post that one for now. I like the title. lol

Mystery Pecan Pie

1 unbaked pie crust (9")
1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup sugar
4 eggs, divided
2 tsp. vanilla, divided
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 cups pecan halves
1 cup corn syrup

1. Beat together the cream cheese, 1/3 cup sugar, 1 egg, 1 tsp. vanilla and salt in small bowl; set aside. Beat 3 eggs well; add the 1/4 cup sugar, corn syrup and 1 teaspoon vanilla; blend well.
2. Spread cream cheese mixture in bottom of unbaked crust. Sprinkle pecans over cheese layer. Pour corn syrup mixture gently over top of pecans. Bake at 375F for 40 minutes, or until center is firm to touch.
