So he made no boil Mac N Cheese

Normally we would make this in the smoker, but time and weather the other day weren't in our favor the other day. To make up for the lack of smoke, he used alder smoked slat, and several chopped pieces of our homemade bacon.

Here's the recipe:

Here's the recipe.

2 cups macaroni, uncooked
4 cups milk (2% or higher)
4 tbsp. salted butter, melted
1 tsp. table salt
8 oz. Velveeta cheese, cubed or shredded
4 cups shredded cheese (2 cups cheddar, 2 cups mixed cheeses)
1 tsp. dry mustard powder

Preheat oven to 350
Melt butter add to milk. Add seasonings mix with pasta.
Add shredded velveta & 2 cups of cheese
Cover with foil and bake 50-60 minutes
Stir occasionally. Remove foil add remaining cheese to too and bake till browned.

I should mention that he has been helping in the kitchen since he was 3. He has his own apron and his own knives, and yes they are the sharp kind.

That was the pan after firsts. There was nothing to photo after seconds!

That is awesome Case to have your son cooking at that age. Look out he will be taking over in a couple of years. You just have to get him working with the BBQ's next. Looking forward to seeing more of his cooks and of course yours.:)

Thanks Barb! He has already claimed one of the mini-WSM's as "his". He requested to smoke a rotisserie pork loin this weekend on the minitisserie! Guess I will be in charge of the sides...

Looks as though your sous chef did a great job. We have our granddaughters helping us all the time and it makes for great quality time.

That boy has talent Case, better be careful or you might become the Sous Chef;) It's great to see the kids on the forum helping out with the cooks, makes for great family bonding.

Thank you! He's getting there. Pretty soon I'll be able to kick my feet up and let him do all the hard work!

Always good to have him in the kitchen! Especially when I need onions chopped!

Looks like you have an awesome chef in the making!!! Mac and cheese looks fantastic, thanks for the recipe too!!!

Is that the same son who was making killer pizzas in the mini? He's stepping up his game, you better watch out or you won't be allowed in the kitchen or BBQ pit (except to clean) :)

Yep same son! Last night he took over the kitchen again, I was left with dish duty!!

youre teaching him well , Case. he'll be a great cook like his dad.
I love going to either of my grown son's places for BBQ cuz I trained em right when they were youngsters. they love to grill and they do give me some credit for their cooking skills....which is nice. ;)

Thanks Frank! It's fun watching him try new things in the kitchen. He's on an onion kick right now. Everything he cooks he wants onions in. I have to draw the line sometimes!

Classic Mac and cheese Case, your sous chef has a way around the kitchen at a very young age, but he has a good teacher.

Thanks Jeff! He really likes to cook. Tomorrow he's making chicken did treats for the dogs. He'll grind chicken thighs, mix with the treat mix and shoot strips out of the jerky cannon! Then into the smoker to cook. After all, dogs like smoked food too!!!!!

The only thing missing is kid sized nitrile gloves! The mac & cheese looked good...

Are you getting more snow, Case?

Thank you! He wears them when we make sausage and jerky!

This morning we got several inches. Was super slick, roads were a mess. Warmed up and melted the snow mostly.
