Mold inside my Smoker!! Help!!

I did a cook a while back and didn't clean up afterwards. About a week ago I opened my WSM 18.5 and there was mold on the grates and on the interior sides. I fired it up with charcoal as hot as I could get it to try and disinfect. Do I now need to scrub the interior walls? I know typically you don't clean those but don't I need to after there was mold on the inside?

Been there, it happens to mine during storage in humid conditions. I store mine outside covered but lately I started to invert the mid section so the seam will not let water enter the lower ash pan area thus reducing your situation.
So far it has worked.

I had the same exact issue. I just sprayed it all off with hose and fired it up to disinfect. No on in my family is at all sensitive to mold though. I'm not sure what it takes to kill the spores. The cover does absolutely nothing to keep a slight rain from getting water in it. Inverting the middle section is a great idea.

I pretty much do what Chris posted in the "burning out the cooker". Get a plastic brush and brush off what you can...to disinfect use 1 Tablespoon of Bleach to 1 Gallon of water. Place this in a spray bottle and spray away. LET THIS SET FOR 30 MINUTES..This will pretty much kill all the spores. Brush off with a plastic brush, Then fire up the cooker as prescribed. Brush again and wash out with mild soap and water. It is now disinfected and cleaned.
