meat temps

new to bbq
put an 8lb butt on a little over an hour ago, temp is sitting at 265 according to maverick et733 and meat temp reading at 106 already, is this too high too fast? only my third smoke on wsm 22-1/2 and first butt. thanks for your help
 
I've seen people smoke their meats from 225* to 350*. I usually smoke at 250*. There is no right nor wrong temp, just what you like to do.
 
I do my Boston Butts and ribs at 275 degrees + or -. I get excellent results and they finish noticeably quicker (with no loss of quality) than doing at 200-225, as an example.

turned out amazing, hit the stall around 170ish for a good few hours, made for delicious bark. meat turned out very tender very delicious, cant seem to post pics but everyone loved it. thanks for the help everyone. tested thermometers and they are spot on. cant wait to do another!
