Lots of Excitement Last Night!

So, our dad is taking a pretty bad downturn. My poor sister has been handling the brunt of the issues. Last night very late close to midnight, talking on phone being updated. I see lights around my yard out the patio door. So I'm watching this unfold, people coming right up to my house, then I hear footsteps on the stairs coming up to the deck. Got off with my sis, grabbed my 9mm outta the safe, wife calls 911.
What a "turnout"! 6 squads (at least in front of my house). CV police come to door, as well as county sheriff. Then wife gets a call from our friend behind us. "Hey Renee hope we haven't bothered you" "Dog got out".
Damn! think maybe you'd warn your neighbors BEFORE you do something sure to scare the :poop: :poop: outta your neighbor's/friends?
Sadly just got word from sis, hospice saying looks like it's the "final journey"

Sorry you are going through that with your dad. I went through the exact thing 3 years ago with my dad. He had been in hospice for several years with lung disease. While having them in hospice helps with you being able to try to mentally prepare for the end, it still hits you. For me there was some relief when he was finally no longer in pain, but it kind of delayed some of my grief management and I've noticed even now I'm still kind of coming to terms with it. Sending thoughts and prayers for your family. Spend as much time remembering the good times as you can.

I'm sorry to hear that your father is in his twilight, from what I've read, you have a very close family, and he's had a great life. That's quite the scare, neighbors looking for their dog in the dead of the night. I don't think that would go over well here, I certainly wouldn't go poking around my neighbors house in the middle of the night. The phones up here don't have a 9 or a 1

your story reminds me of night we had when living in Seattle several years ago- We were awoken late by a ruckus outside, I looked out the window in our backyard and all I saw were some flashlights and little lights bobbing up and down near the ground? I couldn't tell what was going on, but then suddenly there was a knock on the door. I went to the door slowly and half asleep, and the knocker identified themself as Seattle Police. I opened the door, and there were a pair of officers - they said there had been some damage to my truck which was parked in my driveway. Well, it turn's out some jerk was beating up his girlfriend down the street - she called the cops - the dude ran and was hiding in the bed of my truck. The cops had the K9 unit out looking for him. The officers said the pups ran up the hood my truck, over the cab and had pinned the dude down in the bed. In doing so, they scratched the hood of the truck .. The little lights I saw out the window where actually little headlamps on the dogs!

Sorry about your dad - its so tough watching your parents slide -

I just thought it was comical that the neighbor called AFTER the fact and having scared us enough for me to grab a weapon from the safe, and to call 911. Honestly they're lucky I've got a "cool head". Because this could have been FAR worse
There was a situation here in town a couple of years ago, where a shelter in place order was enacted. Make sure all doors & windows were locked, and stay out of eyesight. Hostage situation, discovered to be self-resolved when the Bearcat armored vehicle breached. I was the only one home but still.....

I ended up talking to the county communications officer, as well as a long time friend of mine who knows the innards of the emergency alert system, about why my work cell phone picked up the alert, and my personal phone did not. I did get what I thought was an acceptable explanation, and the officer was geeking out over this system, and being able to talk with someone who knew what he was saying.

Regrettably, even in this small town of less than 5,000 people, there are still far too many violent encounters. There is a rather serious meth lab problem out here in the rural areas (no, that's really not a big surprise.) Short story is that here as well as in the metro, I always have my head on a swivel.

I, too, am sorry for your Dad's situation.

Whenever I read a story like yours I think of when I was ~10 and my friends and I saw a bank robbery chase, the robber crash into the house 2 doors down, he ran from his car leaving his hostage behind and went into the woods and moments later we heard gunshots where the police shot him.

I like the “John Cameron Swayze” reference!
Both my parents have passed to the larger life and it was mind numbing when my father passed, we were very close. It was not quite as bad but, it is soul crushing to realize when one becomes an orphan.
Prayers offered for your dad.

Hang in there Larry, from this side you seem to have spent some great years with your father.

Lost my mom when I was 30, dad so young I have no memories.. I always tell people give em lots of hugs.

I guess like so many people do. We did go through our very rough patch. I guess we both "mellowed". Kids don't come with instruction sheets, I was the learning experiment I guess. :D

Well, my dad is never a dull moment sometimes. Sister said hospice nurse just left. Said "he fooled us again" :D Although last Sunday I swore I was gonna strangle him myself :D Told my sis she says "welcome to my world" :D
Guy is like the Timex watch
I used to love those Timex Watch Commercials when watching Jacques Cousteau's TV Specials. Sounds like your dad is planning on you throwing a 100 birthday party. Better get planning

He's said more than once 100 is his goal. Not sure about it. He's getting more frail by the day. But somehow he hangs in there.

Sorry to hear your dad is slipping Larry. Hopefully, when his time comes, he'll have a comfortable passing.

Mom swore she'd reach 100, and would have, had it not been for a massive stroke. We buried her ashes on her 90th birthday. Dad made it to 94 Good long lives, and both passed in their sleep. Can't ask for more than that.
