LinkMeter v8 Release

First thing I checked. It is showing 4 line. I tried changing it and changing back and the 4 line still only shows 2 lines.

Bryan,
What is the upgrade process from upgrading to v7 so that we can get it to store a config file for easy updating to v8?

thanks
dave

In post #15 of this thread I detailed how I updated, Bryan said it was the right thing to do. My settings were all correct after the upgrade... There are options in the HM interface to make manual backups of your config as well.

Yeah there's a thing gone wrong with the display in the HeaterMeter, see the posts above. I've fixed it but I haven't been able to check it back in because I've spent all evening helping a lady fix her 1986 Dodge Super Ram pickup where the previous owner decided to replace every part under the hood with an aftermarket "enthusiast" part which are failing at an alarming rate.

Ok go to your AVR Firmware page and install From Online Repository, select
snapshots/trunk/heatermeter.hex with MD5 f9bf54c6b07f65f0a4af0f21161dbf04

Flash and it should be good to go

Unless I am doing something wrong I am getting wget:bad address 'capnbry.net' Download failed

Didn't work for me.

Yeah your heatermeter doesn't have internet access (most likely the dns server on the device doesn't have an upstream server configured). You can just download the heatermeter.hex from here
http://capnbry.net/linkmeter/snapshots/trunk/

then just browse to that file you downloaded using the "Local machine" option from the AVR firmware page.

Not having any luck. Downloaded the .hex file but no joy.
Do you have a primer that shows how to setup internet access for the heatermeter. I have searched the site but can't find anything that helps.

Not really, there are far too many combinations of how you can configure the networking on a device with two network interfaces to make any sort of guide work. What happens when you try to upload the hex file? I'm headed to bed now but will check back in the morning.

downloaded the heatermeter.hex file and did the local avrupdate. said it was sucessful but still no 4 line display.

Do you have the WiFi dongle? Connected to your Wifi router? Go to HM web page, Configuration, Network, Locate your Wifi adaptor, click EDIT. If set to DHCP make sure your WiFi router has valid DNS entries, if set to Static IP check your IP setting, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and put in your DNS server number.... 64.105.189.26 should work for DNS but use your Internet provider DNS if you know it. (IPv4 Broadcast can be blank, other fields need to be filled in properly)

Ralph, I have both hardwire and wifi dongle on my HM. Anytime I have setup a new device on my network I have just been able to give them a static IP
i.e. 192.168.2.XXX with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 with a default gateway of 192.168.2.1 and a preferred DNS server of 192.168.2.1 and 8.8.8.8
Once that was setup I always have network on that device. Worked for every computer in the house as well as my ipad.

That is how the desktops and my laptop wifi are setup All work

DNS Server 192.168.2.1, that would be your wifi router then, if your gateway is also 192.168.2.1. So, in your Wifi router there is a place to set DNS servers, if you have proper DNS servers set in your Wifi router that should work. If it does not work you can just put in a valid DNS server there instead, like the one I listed or the one from your ISP (which should be entered in your WiFI router now)

That is exactly right. For some reason my dongle is not working but I can access my HM on a browser locally. I have set up network access on many devices here exactly this way and it always works. I have even disabled my firewall. Still no joy.

I am thinking that it might be easier to go back to the previous firmware until this can be figured out. Very frustrating.

The new 20130604B version works just fine. Thanks Bryan! On another note, are the old linkmeters still supported with v8? Got a few i built for friends that I should probably update.

I spent some time yesterday actually getting it to compile, which wasn't as easy as I'd like it, but it did compile. I haven't tested it but there are new images/packages in the snapshot directory. I've also saved the old releases so you can go back if you need to.
