Kettle Pizza on Performer Question

In the instructions for the Kettle Pizza it says this.

6. If you are installing on a Weber Performer style grill remove the two plastic standoffs on the side mounted lid holder and set aside.

For those of you with a Performer is this necessary?

I put mine on my Performer just for a moment and it seemed to fit. This was before I read this in the instructions though.

I don't have a Performer but I remember this discussion. It's because they could melt. Tony melted a set once

If you have a plastic tab on your vent, keep an eye on it as well. I melted one off. Smells terrible and is a **** to clean off the lid.

Alot of folks take the plastic spindle off and replace them with the wooden spindles that you get on sewing thred

I melted mine long before I had my KP.

When I called Weber, they sent me new ones. That was a few years ago and I still haven't put them on. No further melting though.
