“I've always followed my father's advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and, second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be goddamn sure I intend to. And, third, he told me not to go around looking for trouble. ”
― John Wayne

Sorry, I was sleeping!

”Don‘t tell me it’s a fine day or I’ll shoot you!”
McClintock.
Opening line to “Hank” played by Hank Worden ( several time sidekick)

We love the Duke in our household!
I even bought the mediocre whiskey, because the label is so friggin cool😁

The other stuff is actually very nice, I used that “Duke“ bottle for several other (better) bourbons simply because the label is indeed that cool!

Been busy, making a bakery run (30 miles RT, worth it!) polishing julep cups for tomorrow, making minted simple syrup.
I usually do the Virginia method (first learned when I was about 18):
Muddle fresh tender mint in the bottom of an appropriate vessel with a bit of sugar, muddle enough to bruise and compact but not so much as to turn the lovely color. Insert a suitable straw. Fill the vessel with crushed ice as full as possible. Making sure not to block the straw. Add half the remaining space between the ice with the finest bourbon available (or personal favorite). Add a touch more ice as the liquor will have melted some. Fill the balance of the vessel to the rim with simple syrup and garnish with a mint sprig. Dusting with powdered is optional (I see it as being silly). Allow flavors to combine as you casually and proudly begin to offer the beverage to guests. Avoid touching the body of the vessel as much as possible and DO NOT STIR! Allow small movements to swirl the liquid heaven gently. Replenish with ice, bourbon and syrup as required. The mint is generally sturdy enough for three.

This year I’m just changing up the syrup with the addition of mint. (The South Carolina version)

If the day is really hot and humid you can develop a lovely refreshing visible layer of frost on the outside of the cup.
