It's Nice Outside Time to Cook

Rich Dahl

R.I.P. 7/21/2024
Weather here in the high country of Arizona has been fantastic for the last week and looks to stay nice for a while. High 70s no wind and sunny. Time to do some grilling and BBQ.
Decided to do some brats in a different way. I found a chili recipe for hot dog chili and decided to make some chili brats. Cooked up the chili on the gasser and did the brats on the JJ. Barb made up some of her O’Brian potato salad and while I was waiting for the chili to finish I made up some sandwich bread for next week.
The chili brats were good but I need to tweak the chili recipe to get a little more kick out of it for the brats, but for hot dogs it would be great.
I’ll do the pulled pork in another tread.

Have a great week

All looks wonderful Rich. And that bread: I can smell it up here :)

Glad you got our warm weather: -25C/-13F here and snow is still falling :(

That looks great Rich! I love chili dogs and the brats would be delicious. That chili cooking in the cast iron is what's right with the world! I showed Kim the post and she would like Barb's Obrien Potato salad recipe. Please! Great cook!

Man, I love the smell of fresh bread.

When I was in Germany (the first time 75-79) I used to put 2 bottles of white wine in the car (overnight to chill) for the drive 75 mile to Garmisch for a day of skiing. Along the way we'd stop at a Backerei and pick up some fresh Brotchen und BUtter to eat along the way.

As for here, it's currently 13F with snow on the ground...

Great idea with those chili brats Rich...Well Done!! Just got hit with 18" of snow here....hoping to be able to cook this weekend!!!

Here is the recipe for the Potato Salad.

O’Brien Potato Salad

1 bag potatoes O’Brien Ore Ida
1 Tbsp. water
2 hardboiled eggs chopped
½ cup diced bell pepper any color or mix
¼ cup red onion diced
½ cup celery diced
1 Jalapeno pepper (seeds & veins removed) diced
½ - 1 Tsp. Garlic Festival Garlic Garni or garlic powder
¼ Tsp. Penzey’s Ariz. Dreaming Seasoning (or Mild Chili Powder)
½ ¬¬- ¾ cup yellow mustard
2 Tbsp. sweet pickle relish
Salt & Pepper to taste and Paprika is optional for topping

Place potatoes in microwave safe bowl with water. Cover & cook on high 8 minutes. Stir, cover and cook another 8 – 10 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
Then I put them on a cookie sheet, spread out and into the freezer for 15 – 20 minutes then into the fridge another 20 minutes till chilled.
Remove potatoes from cookie sheet to bowl and add everything in. With the seasoning I just go by taste. You may want to start out on the lesser side, because you can always add more. You may have other seasoning you like so give them a try also. This is just what we like and I also try different spices. If you have fresh herbs that gives it a completely different taste. Just have fun.
Hope you enjoy it.

Kim says thank you so much Barb!

Barb, Tim says thanks too!
I like the chili consistency, firm enough to be chili soft enough to be a condiment!
As always beautiful bread too!
