Cody, you always find the good ones. Every time I pick up a grill, I beg and prod them to jump into the bed of my truck but it never works. I always have to pick up the lazy suckers and hoist them in. I even bring along some raw hamburger and throw that up into the bed, but the grills just sit there and laugh at me.

Now that I’ve actually gotten my paws on a couple of the sidewinders, I gotta say, they are meaty. If only the floors and cabinets didn’t go to

It's Mica Black, I think. I like those early darker side tables.
This one is going to get an LP hanger and manifold from a parts grill with a broken hinge and rusted out frame. It's going to get a quick cleanup and functional rehab for a friend in need. I have new or good used parts to replace everything inside the (straight!) firebox with SS.
The best thing about these older models is how easily they can be rehabbed and put back in service. Keeping one out of the dump and helping someone avoid a poorly made grill that doesn't cook well is a really satisfying part of this hobby.

I had a place local to me who was willing to make a run of bottoms and backs out of stainless steel, but it would take several if us to go in on buying a quantity that would get the price down to realistic.
When I was in Florida, I had a friend and client who owned a sheet metal shop. He made me a handful - all gone now, but they made restoring these grills a lot easier and were a great selling point to get a higher price:

Sadly I'm going to have to take a dump run pretty soon with probably several cook boxes from Sidewinder, silver, 330, spirit and probably more.
Schnitzers down by Coscto --- they will pay you for the aluminum and you can just drop off the steel....I've got a cook box for you but you have to come and get it

I finally found the prices from 2 years ago, so you would have to assume higher. For a run of 24 pieces of one kind, with the engineering fee it worked out to about $70 per panel. The price for the bottoms was just a little higher than the backs.
Obviously, the bottoms are what is usually the worst, but the 1-2 combination of both being replaced by stainless is a strong marketing edge from my experience. Also, you have to think about the labor time to grind and sand plus the cost of spray paint and rust inhibitors. With new panels that require no painting, you just remove and replace!

Oh, that added time and material is 100% in my brain. I come from a flat rate mentality so time vs. cost is at the forefront for me. I’m pretty sure the bottoms are the same for sidewinders and the front controls? Is that accurate?
And would not having the hole in the center change pricing?
