I will just leave this here

If one uses a wire wheel on a drill to clean the grills and such, does the wire wheel have to be SS or brass or is plain steel OK ?

For those not aware, if one uses a plain steel wire brush on SS, it can embed plain steel into the SS and become a rust site. In TIG welding, one must use a brass wire brush on SS, not a steel wire brush.

Do wire brushes in a drill fling black carbon everywhere ?

I use steel wire wheels, but not on SS. On SS I only use brass or SS.

As far as flinging black carbon, if you're referring to grinding out a cookbox, yes it is an absolute mess, at least in my opinion.

The lids are actually porcelain coated. It is essentially a layer of glass on the inside and outside of the lid. You can generally get the inside of the lid just as shiny as it was when it was new without blasting. 25 year old weber silver B.

Bruce answered your question, but to complete the thought, all you need to clean it is a window razor scraper, Windex, or a degreaser like Simple Green, and 0000 Steel Wool (and elbow grease).

And some level of patience... but the big main scrapes, when there are rolls of carbon coming off are so satisfying. I'm supposed to get my son when I do that part because he loves watching it, lol
