I will just leave this here

I've never quite understood why you need a grill mat --- especially for Webers...... others, maybe. Where is the grease leaking/dripping from?
My only issues have been when you hang tools from the hooks (tools get hung on a leftover frame OFF the deck but within reach) or when you clean the grill and chunks of crud go flying. I will concede the occasional spill does occur, but that would more than likely miss the mat anyways.

The grease drips from the front of the lid. No, we don't eat greasy food...steak, hamburger, and ribs. Run a paper towel under the front of the lid and you'll see.

As far as tool boxes though I'm just too cheap. Going to have to wait for a sale or or snag one off classified ads.
I'm always happy to spend the money when it's worth it but wasting $ for no reason is not my thing

In nice weather (which here not much of :( ) I have a nice all weather rug I put on my deck. It's not rubber or rubber backed. So if it gets rained on water passes through and it air dries nicely. Or I can simply get my Hoover Spin Scrub carpet cleaner out, and go over it which will suck all the water up quickly. I can vacuum the carpet easily as well and if I soil it, it cleans up easily and if day comes I cannot clean it they're cheap enough to not break my heart if I need to toss it.
I like it does not trap moisture long term against the wood either, and on hot days, it's quite comfy to go out barefoot and relax on a lounger smelling my BBQ smoke, or lounging out there on warm evenings with the boss, watching a Cubs game and enjoying an after dinner drink.
We had tried a rubber backed one, but ended up tossing it. Harder to handle, was always wet under it (even with no rain) and left a stain on the wood.
Maybe on block pavers not so bad but on a wood deck we are lovin the area rug. You can see just a touch of it here on one of those nice evenings enjoying the Weber fire pit.

I am always afraid to use something like that on my deck. I am afraid it will trap moisture between it and the deck causing rot. What do you guys think?
I agree and like you mentioned the grease is a good treatment for the wood. If your deck has a good coat of stain on it the grease might be easily wiped up? I know my charcoal concrete pavers absorb the grease immediately and it doesn't want to come out.

I guess I could consider putting a commercial grade sealer on the pavers also.

I wonder how that compares to the horse mat I have from the Tractor Supply store. I used it on the ground for I do not have a deck. I have considered using atop of pavers though. The horse mat runs around $50 last time I bought it.
