I will just leave this here

I personally do not find it that hard to use and do for my original 1st generation Summit stainless grates as well as my Recteq RT-700 thinner stainless rod grates.

I don't think there is a place you can find better grates than from Dave Santan/rcplanebuyer. You will see me honestly applaud Qlimetal's thick stainless offerings. They are very fine, and most anyone would be happy with them. Still, Dave is at the top of the heap if you are OK with the cost. Keep in mind, of course, that he is a California based, US craftsman, not a factory in Asia.

These reviews were done years ago when I did my "Stainless Steel Grate Showdown." The prices are pre-COVID, tarriff, etc. and WAY out of date. I would be interested to hear what Dave is quoting now for Genesis x000/Silver/Gold/Platinum grates these days.

I have compared and agree.

Have you compared Weber 9930s vs Dave's? They are pretty much identical. I would assume Dave modeled his design off of them. I have both here dirty at the moment.

I don't know if the Weber 9930s are the same as what was on the first-generation Summit. I have several used sets of those, one on my Summit with the folding doors to access a large smoker box below. The others are just regular, but very thick 304 stainless. And yes, they seem almost identical to Dave's. I actually had a set of Dave's on my Summit originally but decided to sell them when I was able to get a few 1st gen Summit grates, especially the folding version.

Where are you finding the 9930 sets? I see ONE (just will do 1/2 of a grill) for 100 bucks on ebay!

I purchased a new set of 9930s off of eBay and I got 2 more sets off of a couple summit platinums. Hoping to find more.

That’s what I’m in search of for my Platinum. Need the Big Boy grates for my forever grill! I am hoping to acquire (free or very cheap) a first gen summit this year. And if not salvageable, part it out.

I just had this off the wall thought.....

You guys ever see these vids of 'laser cleaning/rust removal' ??? How awesome would it be to be able to clean a cook box and lid sides so easily? I haven't looked into who would do it or how much it would cost - but it would be cool to find someone that does it.

I actually looked into this not all that long ago. I tend to “overdo” things a bit when it comes to tools and, despite my best efforts to skew the math in my favor, the dollars just did not make sense for the model I deemed as suitable for my wants / needs regardless of how far I looked beyond grill related stuff for other uses. TBH - I don’t doubt for a minute that my “needs” for such a piece of equipment couldn’t be accomplished for less than 1/3 of the cost of my wants. However, there’s always that chance so I was looking at a trailered package with an included Genset to provide appropriate power wherever I decided to take or use it.

Have you ever looked into having it done by someone with a business of doing it? I'd be curious how the cost compares to sand blasting.
I couldn't see buying the equipment unless you were going to make a business out of it.

I have not seen anyone making a business model of it yet in my area. Having to deal with media storage and disposal has always prevented me from investing in my own sandblasting setup. I thought this might be the answer but my wallet and my wife both disagree with that assessment.
