I will just leave this here

I will do that Bruce. I’m surprised that Weber themselves does not have a full catalog of their grills. I saw the evolution page and the schematics lookup. But it’s super simple to create a gallery with descriptive comments by the side.

Weber made a whole lot of unique grills over the years. Special editions, one or two year run grills, grills with options, etc..... I am sure Weber could do it if they wanted, but it would be a huge list. My guess is that their focus is on 2021 and 2022 grills right now.

What always needs to be considered when trying to ID an older Weber grill is that they are OLD and there are a lot of people like us out there who can't seem to leave well enough alone and over the years, a lot of these grills get some mix and match parts stuck on them.

A lot of my rehab grills wind up with lids that they were not born with. Same goes with knobs and handles and several have had cabinets removed and cross members welded in for support on the bottom and a way to add a bottom shelf. None of that is going to show up on Weber model list.

Yep Larry, that is what I meant with "special editions". Throw in the Costco special edition grills in modern times. I think ACE and other sellers had signature editions as well. Then you could lump in the "Snap On" "Kroger" and other logo grills.

That is funny! Really though, with the internet it's not that hard to identify a grill.
Hey Steve, you are correct. Google helps you locate information out there, but that information needs to be created, catalogued and organized for Google to find it. Presently, I have not been able to find a website with pictures and information about ALL Weber grills.

I have a Silver B (label on the frame) but the lid says “Genesis Gold” which confused me. Is this a Frankenstein? Is it a "Silver B" or is it a "Genesis Gold" ?

Yes, exactly what i described a few posts up. Over the years, these grills get modified quite often by owners.

I don't think any Silver B grills came with the SS lid or that SS panel along the front. My guess is that your grill is mostly a Genesis Gold. Why do you say it is a Silver B?

Hey Bruce, look at the label on the frame. You actually explained that people mix and match parts from other grills, a couple of weeks ago on this other post:

Add to that specials for only one reseller i.e. the Skyline being made only for Sears, and so on
Now that's an interesting piece of information that I never knew. I had always guessed that the old platinum series grills were only sold by certain retailers also. Does anyone know that one?

The Platinum series was a general offering the Weber did. Maybe not readily available at every outlet, but not specific to any retailer. The Skyline and even today some special colors (think Ace "Indigo") were retailer specific. One of the first grills I did was a "Mica" dark grey old x000 Genesis with durawood that was a special edition for Target.

Jon, one of the grills I have for sale now (actually spoken for) is "Mica Black". But looks more like a dark grey. Is that the one you are talking about for Target stores?

Thanks Jon, I always enjoy learning about the history .

Jon is good at that stuff. I have learned a lot on this forum. I just don't retain it very well.

Bruce,
I think there is a good chance that it is. Here is a picture of mine after I restored it (before joining TVWBB and learning so much, including from you. I used SANDPAPER to clean the inside of the firebox!) The dark gray knobs I believe are for a Platinum series and maybe even the first generations Summit.

That one was a wreck when I bought it:
