I was HONORED to do this cook

This is a picture of me (the short one) and Zac taken last weekend.

Zac's family and our family have been friends for many years.

He graduated from our local high school in 2015 and spent a year deciding what it was he wanted to do with his life. During that year he decided that he wanted to serve his country in the United States Army. After making that decision, Zac lost 85 pounds and cleared numerous other hurdles to be accepted. He will serve in the infantry by choice, and hopes he will be able to get into Airborne.

Zac's family threw him a going away party last weekend. His only request was that they have me cook pulled pork for the party.

When his mom called me and asked me if I would do the cook I didn't think twice. Of course I would. I was nearly moved to tears.

I have cooked for many occasions: comps, graduations, weddings, and festivals but this is the first time I have cooked a farewell party for a young person who has chosen to serve the people of this great nation in the military.

Zac leaves this week for basic training at Ft. Benning, GA. He will probably deploy to the Middle East in the next few months.

Thank you Zac and family for giving me the great honor of cooking for your party.

Thank you Zac for choosing to serve in our military. I pray you will be safe, that you will serve with honor and distinction, and that you make your family and our little community proud.

Bet Zac will be thinking about your pulled pork during his hitch. Give him a few classes when he returns and he can pass your tradition along Clark.

Thank you Clark for sharing this and contributing to a fine young mans farewell party. Zac, thank you for joining the Army to protect this wonderful country of ours.

As has been previously stated, thanks for honoring this fine young man. Thank-you Zac for your service and for doing what many others won't. Sounds like you were raised right and there are many good people that care about you. Stay safe.

What a great story! Thanks for sharing it with us, Clark, and thanks for giving this young man the send-off he deserved! :)
