Honoring Our Veterans Today


 
Dad, tried to serve in WWII they wouldn't take him LOL. Of course had it been Nam, they were taking anyone. Hell they drafted my high school buddy who had leukemia. We were at the draft board in Chicago together. He had all his medical files. They stamped him 1A. Go figure.
 
My father is a 22 year Army veteran (Ranger). Joined after graduating college and left for Viet Nam less than two months after I was born. My father-in-law (who I sadly never met) 'snuck' into the Army at age 17 to fight in WWII. He was shot during the Battle of the Bulge, separated from his unit, and lived to tell about it. My mother-in-law still has his written accounts of the several days that followed as he worked his way back to his team and nursed his injuries.

Also a shout out to my great high school friend Dan, who served over 20 years in the USMC, retiring as a Lt Colonel.
 
The of Veterans in my family - Uncle Albert, US Army Infantry, Vietnam. Uncle Less, US Army, WWII Normandy Medic, Grandfather, WWI drafted, did not see combat but witnessed the Spanish Flu during training and deployment.

My uncle Arnold, who served in the US Air Force after the Korean War
My uncle Bud, who did 20+ years in the US Navy
My ex-BIL Bill, who did 10+ years in the US Navy
My ex-BIL Ringo, who did 20+ years in the US Navy
My brother Ted, who did 20 years in the US Army and Army reserve
My nephew Brandon, who served a stint in the US Army
And lastly, but by no means leastly, my great uncle Johnny, my great grandfather's brother, who fought in 3 different wars for 3 different countries!
I know that he fought in the Boer War for England and was a Merchant Marine during WWII when he was in his 60's!
I can't remember the third one he fought in, but my dad says that uncle Johnny was QUITE the character!
