Holy Cow that is some expensive COW!

So I just moved from Montgomery County, MD (DC Metro for those of you not in the know) to Lexington, KY about a month ago. Before coming down I figured (1) "Red" state, (2) Southern state, (3) FRICKIN' KENTUCKY, (4) Bluegrass and Moonshiners who take their $hit seriously, (5) Bourbon Capital of the world -- my assumption was that it should be easy to find good meat to cook...right?!

Guess what these jokers want per pound for brisket?!?! Go ahead....GUESS! I dare you!

I have found flats in 3 places. NO FULL PACKERS. Only flats. ***?!

These jokers want $6.50 per lb for a brisket flat. And THAT was at Sam's Club. I nearly fainted. No limo ride with that briskie. No ride in a hot air balloon involved. No 3 day weekend at the Four Seasons included. Just a few lbs. of brisket.

Nuts. That is just nuts. And that is when you can actually FIND the stuff.

Anybody want hot dogs again for dinner? Sniff sniff....

Good lord.....

Beef prices are very high and I suspect we have not seen the end YET! Couple this with beef that lacks flavor (the NEW "healthy" beef without fat) has sure, more than once, sent me into "Pork Heaven" (along with LOTS of chicken, etc). Of course, now a virus is killing little pigs, reducing the grown pig population so pork is now on the rise in price, also.

Oh well, "This too will pass" (I hope).

At any rate, we ALL feel your pain!

I just checked, and Lexington has a Costco.
Give 'em a buzz, even if not a member, and get a price check on briskets, if they have them there.
Might be worth the price of admission.

And like Robert said, we won't see the end of high beef and pork prices for some time to come.

Maybe this will help? That's a bummer. The point is the best part of the brisket! And that is way too expensive for flats.

Seriously the most economical way besides raising and slaughtering your own is to find a local breeder.
Split the cost with family/friends, and you can have the meat cut to order.

I've been seeing choice packer briskets at Wal Mart for $2.98/lb.

Was at Wal Mart yesterday and their price on packers has gone up from $2.98 to $3.48/lb. Interestingly the price was the same for the choice or select grades.
