New to the Board... and new to smoking! As a matter of fact, I haven't bought my smoker yet. A few Questions before I buy... 1. Don't know where my interest WSM, but is it worth the money? 2. Is the the 18" WSM good enough for a beginner?

I'm looking forward to learning so much from you'll!

David

If you enjoy making and eating barbecue, the WSM 18.5" is a great place to start. It is big enough to handle the needs of most people. It's well constructed...I'm going on 16 years with mine, still going strong. Easy to use. Lots of great support from the members of this community and from the articles I've been posting for 15 years at www.virtualweberbullet.com

Go for it!

Best regards,
Chris

Welcome aboard David.
You won't regret buying a WSM and a 18.5 is perfect way to start.

Welcome from another noob. I just went from a Performer to a 22.5 WSM. Realistically I could have gotten the 18 but I wanted what I wanted. You will enjoy it here.

Hi David,

On August 17th, at Huntington Beach, on the State side just south of the pier, there is going to be a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned BBQ Contest. This is a professional BBQ contest where you will find many pitmasters using WSM smokers!

It's a GREAT smoker for everyone !!!

Looking forward to you making some awesome BBQ on a WSM.

BTW, here's a link to the contest.... http://www.rpwbbq.com/
Hope to see you there.

ADDED : There's an excellent opportunity to see the WSMs in action next weekend, the 11th, at the Queen Mary. 51 Teams, many of which will be cooking on WSMs.

David, I bought a WSM 18.5 last week, put it together and then decided for the added 100 bucks I should have bought the bigger one that way I always had the extra room if I needed it.
I returned the 18.5 and I'm waiting for the 22.5 to arrive.
I took it as an investment, if I'm going to throw the money at it and really get into the BBQ thang...... then just do it and don't look back!

That's the only thing holding me back... 18 or 22.5. I just don't want to spend the extra money and it just sits and collects dust. Welcome back at you!

Thanks for the info Bob. Don't know if I can make the LB, but will definitely be at the HB event.
