Help with replacement S.S. grates and flavorizer bars

I have a Weber Genesis EP-310 (2008-2010 with burners on the side; can't find model and serial anywhere?) and it has served me well but the flavorizer bars are severely rusted and the igniter no longer works.
It has the original steel coated bars and grates. I'd like to upgrade to stainless steel flavorizer bars and grates as well as replace the push button igniter.

Was looking at this Qulimetal flavorizer bars/grates combo at Amazon:

Cabinet is also rusting inside on the bottom and on the corners of the L bracket that support the drip tray but I'm guessing that due to age Weber would not warranty any of these parts?

Suggestions on best bang for the buck on my desired replacement parts?

Thanks in advance...

What you've found thus far is fine. You might want to consider new burner tubes and replace the entire ignition system...along with a thorough cleaning you'll have many more years of use from your grill.

Thanks for the confirmation on my choice.

You have any suggestions for the burner (aftermarket) or should I stick to Weber part on that?

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but this one seems to fit the topic.....

So.... I was scanning thru amazon and saw this deal today --- SS flavor bars for my Spirit 2 burner for $8.50!!!!!
Now --- I don't really 'need' new bars at the moment, but its hard to pass up such a good deal for parts for my daily grill.
I believe that these are the same flavor bars and brand that I picked up ~7 years ago for $13. They have been holding up pretty good considering how much use they've gotten, but they are 'thinning down' --- I've noticed that when I do a scrape down that they tend to 'flake off' metal both top and bottom - surprisingly quite a bit from the bottom. I'm actually quite surprised at how solid they still are for how much material I've scraped off over the years. Being that I just replace the burners (for $8.50 too !!! ) I'm thinking its pretty much a no brainer.....

So --- I guess the real question is..... What do you guys see for the aging/breakdown/burnout of SS flavor bars? I know they don't stay shiny forever or even that long like they seem to advertise, but I've been surprised to see this set deteriorate in this manner. Is this a trait of the Shinestar brand SS bars? Or do others behave/age the same way?

This has been my first set of SS bars from new - 7 years in - they'd probably last another 1-2-3? years, but I'm sure I'm losing bar mass and heating evenness at this point. Would I really gain anything from spending 2X+ on flavor bars? And NO...... I'm not gonna go buy Dave's bars for this grill..... I really didn't think this little Spirit would have lasted this long without rusting out like all the ones I see listed all rusted out - I'm pretty happy its holding up well without a lot of care! I'll keep running it until a better unit crosses my path....

Well, I’m still running with the original Weber flavorizer bars on my OG Summit 450 - and I’ve gone through about 3 sets of burners over those 20ish years

The Weber bars are 18ga and noticeably lighter than Dave Santana’s bars @16ga that he fabricated for my Vieluxe

I think the difference is my startup routine. I preheat with all burners on Low and place disposable aluminum pans on the grates (I believe they are the half size about 2.5” deep that we accumulate from takeout)

Why?
I get sidetracked and many times am not ready to grill right away and the pans act like domes to concentrate the heat at the grates. When I’m really ready to cook, I stack one pan on the other and brush the grate clean - then slide pans over to brush other grate. Then I set burners to whatever cooking temp needed and cover with pans again.

Hot grates - hot grill - no worries if I get distracted

I also rarely brush my flavorizer bars - only if large chunks accumulate

I am a big fan of Qlimetal, assuming Dave Santana’s are not in the budget or not available.

But, for that price, for a well-used Spirit, I would go for that deal.

I did a quick dive for their other products. Price point looks really nice! for the E/S3xx grills they're under $30 for bars and deflectors! They also have 9mm grates (skeptical on those) claiming 18 rods at $60

The 9mm grates are the real deal. Only negative I have heard is some getting damaged in shipping.

Yeah --- my Spirit 'gets rode hard and put away wet'..... I don't get the 'weber paper' on the inside of the lid --- the inside of my lid looks like the inside of the barrel of my WSM..... only worse!!!

The bars I have deteriorate strangely.... the 'flaking' I mentioned.....

I've scraped a LOT of this off over the last 6+ years..... they still feel fairly solid at this point, but they are definitely losing metal. I'm gonna scrape them again and measure the thickness to see whats left. I did take a magnet to them and they are highly magnetic --- on par with the SS side tables and SS doors of my B ---- so they are definitely NOT 304.

So the question is --- how do REAL 304 bars hold up after 7 years? What is the decomposition mode? I've never had 'good' 304 bars to compare this 'wear' to......

When I bought these bars, I went for the thickest SS for the best price --- I wasn't really paying attention to whether it was 304 or not at that time - I figured 'heavy' was more important. These are most likely 10 year bars if I were to run them out to the point where there are holes.... but picking up a new set for $8.50 seems like a really GOOD idea.

I just got done scraping them down - I wasn't able to locate my calipers (I think its with Bruce's impact) but there definitely was a big difference in the 'flex' of the two bars that have lived over the burners and the middle one that sees minimal heat..... I'm guessing maybe ~2/3-1/2 the thickness at this point, but they are still for the most part 'solid' and still useable. It made up my mind that I should order a new set at a killer price.

I always keep it in the back of my mind that I should order TWO sets (especially at this price!) --- for a 3 bar setup - the middle bar never goes (that) bad so two sets would actually be three as long as the middle bar lasted. But you know what happens when you plan too far into the future like that....... a tree falls on your grill and now you've got parts you can't use......

I found my calipers --- measured the 'worn' bars and its still reading 0.054" thickness - but I'm sure that is all the high spots. The weight difference between the 'burner bars' and the center bar is significant and noticeable.

I also just got the new bars! I'm a little pissed (but not surprised) that they measure only 0.040" instead of the advertised 0.054"..... I'd be more pissed if I would have paid the full price for them. But new flavor bars for $8.50 --- you really can't complain too much. And yes - they are highly magnetic.

Still no real info as to how real 304 bars age/breakdown...... From ads --- the manufacturers are claiming that a 1mm/0.040" 304 bar is expected to last 36-60 months..... I got the same out of the old ones I got - 6+ years (still going) - probably get about the same out of these. I can't see justifying 2X+ for the cheapest (claimed) 304 or 3-4X for 304 from 'trusted' suppliers.

Edit to add --- this would have been a good set to double down on two sets and keep the older 'heavy' center bar and just swap out burner bars for three set for $17..... maybe I'll consider grabbing another set --- or complain that I didn't get what was advertised.

I have gotten several grills with SS flavorizer bars in them where the bars were in decent shape overall, but they were warped pretty bad. I could tell they were thin, probably 20 gauge when new. I won't even put those on a rehab/flip. I think 18 ga is a pretty good economy thickness, but 16 ga are something I would trust for ten years plus if they are 304.

@Jim Weber I'd maybe ask if someone with Dave's flav bars in their grill and has used them for years. How they hold up because we know they are true quality 304 SS.

A while back Dave told me how long he has been running his flavor bars in his grill but I can't remember anymore how long that was but he said they were still going strong

I don't doubt that extra heavy real 304s would last forever - but at what cost. Like R Chin said about the summit bars - three sets of burners and still the original bars....... I've actually seen and felt the bars from a 2nd gen summit ---- IMPRESSIVE!!! --- easily 1/!6"+ thickness.

I'm sure there are plenty of people that have bought Gassaf/Hiecin/Quilmet 304 bars for various grill that would know rather than jumping to the 'gold standard/lifetime' ones.
