Hi, my name is Earl. I live in northern Indiana and retired about 10 months ago. I guess I have taken up BBQing, especially babybacks. Yesterday, July 20, 2014, I tried spare ribs for the first time. I also tried a different rub. Turned out ok but nothing like my babybacks which are very tasty. Still trying to get all the details together about bbqing. I used a Weber 22.5 Gold for a while, then bought a 18.5 WSM which makes it much easier to keep it low so one can cook it slow. I also have an older 2 burner propane grill which hasn't been used much lately and a Jumbo Joe. I use lump charcoal for grilling and Kingston's for BBQing. A tornado went over the house a couple weeks ago, an F-1, and I lost some trees so I kept all the maple and some oak and have been tossing that in with the apple just for kicks.
Love readinbg about everyones cooking adventures and really like Harry Soo's thoughts in the doc. Anyways God bless each of you,
earl

Welcome aboard Earl!
Congrats on your retirement and new hobby.
Always hate to lose trees, but you're making good use of them.

Hi Earl, welcome to the forum congrats on being retired. Glad you're OK after a F1 blows through, that has to be pretty scary stuff. Looking forward to seeing some of those baby back rib cooks
