Got an 18 for the stable today.

Which joins the 22.5" WSM and a host of other Webers.... lol Went to the final day of an estate sale in the hopes the WSM listed in the photos was still available. Yup, it was. You'll see why in a minute.

Home, and this is the condition I got it in.

No wonder it was still there, they were out of their mind on that asking price.

But on the other hand, it's an AT (2013) model. No, the pic isn't upside down. The handle is above this pic, so it was stamped installed this way.

Middle grate needed some scraping, but not too shabby.

I now have an 18" ring to try in the 22" as some people have done.

There was a pile of charcoal remnants, but those got knocked off at the estate sale side yard. lol

C'mon people, this is a new smoker. Treat it with some respect, not neglect!

Let the clean up begin... Starting with the bottom bowl.

After it was clean, I took the legs off for additional cleaning and to properly place the fiber washers. They had the fiber washers stacked and all on the inside. Pretty sure Weber designed this to have a fiber washer on each side of the porcelain. Which is how I put it back together.

More on the next post...

Yeah, I know the seasoning/gunk makes these run better. But I prefer to give all of my finds a deep cleaning before I start creating my own seasoning. Guess I'm a bit OCD like that and I love seeing them shine like new.

I didn't take any 'before' pics of the water pan, but it didn't look like this when I started. lol

Lower grate. Man, I really want the 2014 version with the handles on them. Added it to the Weber Order list.

Even the backside of the door cleaned up nice. But I'll replace it with a Cajun Bandit anyway...

On the patio next to big daddy. Ironically enough, they're both 2013 models even though I got the 22 almost a year ago.

All covered up and tucked in for the night. The cover on the 18 is way tighter than the one on the 22. Weird.

grats on the save! what's the whitish colored junk where the body meets the bowl in the first pic?

edit-what did you wind up paying for it?

Great find Chad, what did you use to clean that baby up. Especially the grates, I need to get mine back to brand new condition. Thanks in advance.

I would like to know too..Just picked up a new to me used Weber kettle myself off CL and needs a little interior cleaning.

That was a great buy Chad. I think you'll be impressed with the 18 when doing smaller cooks.

Thanks fellas. Lookin' forward to using the 18" as I love the heck out of the 22'er and the mini I built.
Never used an 18 before, but I'm sure it'll get worked into a regular rotation. :)

I would like to know too.

Just the Greased Lightning from Home Depot. Can't beat the price nor availability.

On the other hand, the stuff in the purple bottle works better. The yellow bottle product seems to be watered down and not as effective as I remember with the purple bottle. Pretty sure I got the purple bottle from something like Advanced Auto.

I bought a can of oven cleaner/grill cleaner and also the stuff above in the yellow bottle before I saw your post today. Cleaned my latest CL find really well and took the built up soot and grease off in the bowl and lid like nothing. BTW: Nice find on the new smoker...

This is my newest addition--Missing the wood handles in pic as I have them in the house getting cleaned and sealed to go back on. Whole deal for 45.00

That looks like a heck of a find. Yeah someone one at that estate sale had their head tucked up someplace dark when the priced that. You did a great job restoring it to a smoke ready condition.

That was a heck of a job negotiating from the listed price, but on another note, you're gonna need a bigger patio

Nice find.
