I don't know if it will hold up but I shot the inside with some primer to try and coat everything inside as much as I could.
Then I put a semi hard piece up against the hole (I actually used one of those flimsy advertisement magnets cut to size.)

Then I put a screw through the back screw hole to push again this and make it flush against the frame for the most part. Make sure it was set and taped the bolt/screw in place:

Then I put on the JB weld and let it sit. It appears to be holding and solid but I will not know until I go to drill the new hole. We shall see!

Chris, I have the same thing going on with a 3000 cart that I am working on. I am taking 2 pce's of stainless 16 gauge,
cutting down to size, and making about 3 inches wide, then bending into a U-shaped bracket, that I can place directly
over the rusted out area, then measuring and drilling out for a new stainless nut and bolt, and painting painting with the
rest of the frame of course.

Well last night and today I worked on getting everything back together. You can check the first two post on the first page of this to see all the restore.
It did not turn out perfect and I would do thinks diff if I started again.

1.) Get a nice angle grinder so you can use the wire brush and not the knotted as it make do deep of marks in the aluminum. I should have down about 3 coats of printer with wet sand between to get those out. I did not do that so I can see some swirls.
2.) Do it at the side of my house. This is a dirty dirty process and having little kids on the back porch all the time required me to clean up a lot which takes a lot of time.
3.) I Don't think I will do this to flip grills. It is a lot of work! For a personanl grill it is totally worth it and looks so good knowing I did it.

So here are the pictures. The right side of the lid looks a little wet (as I had just touched up a spot on the side and it is still drying.

Yes sir. The Maroon looks good and goes great when A&M is playing....the when the Mavs are playing I have to have a blue lid on it. ROFL!

Two things:

1.) When you first heat it up after painting is it normal to smell off gassing?
2.) I should have listened to Bruce and done the whole bottom in the black (with no metallic for the top area.) I have a little bubbling on each side at the box close to the frame.
No issues on the lid or the front of the cook box. The metallic is only rated for 650 so I think the cookbox just gets to hot for it on the side where it is next to metal. That is the only thing I can think of.

I will try again. But I think I found the issue.....I did not let the paint cure for enough time.
On the can it says to wait 7 days!!!!! Ugg...I guess I will sand that area and re-paint it. Then wait the cure time this time. Opps....

Looking good. I have an 1100 w/ Durawood in that color, waiting for me to start on sometime in the next month or so.
I am debating what to do with it. It seems that the grey goes better with that color than about anything else. Anyone
have any other ideas?

I like anything in the gray/black pallet myself. (But I also only wear black shifts and grayish shorts so I am a little bias.)
The Maroon look really clean I do give it that and gray and maroon are great together.

Awesome work. I also have a maroon one around which I need to clean. I want to replace my SS one with that maroon one.
As for the brushes: I have used both. The knotted and thin wire brushes. The thin wire brushes have the disadvantage that individual strings tend to break off and you don't see them until you step in one when walking barefoot. They are painful. This is why I only use the knotted thicker string brushes.

Yah, I hear you on the wire brushes causing foot hazards. I try to all my work in the grass to avoid that problem.

I had one of the wire brushes come off and towards the sensitive area! Very scary.
If/When I do another rehab I will get a better angle grinder. Then I will not have to press so hard and cause the marks on the sides. Plus it will save me A LOT of time.

Waiting on the Target Clearance to go down a little more so I can pick up a cover for it. Let my old grill go for free this past weekend (uniflame of 9 years or so. Grates were starting to fail and the flavorizor bars were just ash. ROFL)

Well I fired up the grill for the first time tonight. Chicken and corn.
I used the Ignite smoke tube but I was not sure how to light the pellets I had (No heat gun currently.) So after burning my finger trying to light with a long lighter I just threw it in the grill and figured I would mess with it when I got a heat gun. Then I realized after starting the grill that it would get hot enough to ignite the pellets the way I had it and it worked!

Here is the tank covers I got:

This is the smoke tube I got from Target for $5. I put some pellets in it.
Next time I will put it towards the front of the grill as the smoke goes out the back. That will allow the smoke to move from front to back and over the food a little bit more.

The chicken I was cooking. Turned out really good.

Looks good. I have smoked quite a lot on my Genesis. It works great and thanks to easy temperature control.

How did you clean the plastic components, shelf and handle? I can’t get the stains off of mine.

I used Scrubbing Bubbles (the bathroom cleaner) and a brush I use to clean the bathroom. It is a stiff bristled brush but not too stiff that it would scratch.

Lots of things work. I have soaked them in water with dishwasher soap over night or sometimes days and then used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or even 0000 steel whool. Just don’t be too aggressive or they scratch or become too dull.
