Genesis Gold Part 2

The serial number was very faded and I wiped it off completely in an attempt to read it better. I want to say it was a DD code, which would be 2000. My second choice is DU, 2002. Does anybody know when they started making this model?

Sorry, I'm late to the party and I am re-opening the investigation on the model year of this Genny Gold.

Model year 2000 and 2001 golds have fat frames, different side tables and I seem to recall different cook boxes and burners from Silver Bs.

@Steve Hoch I believe yours is a 2002 or 2003 Genesis Gold.

I believe you are correct for a couple of other reasons. It doesn't make sense for a 2000 model year grill to have a "stop watch engineering" frame when the Silver B/C grills did not that year. The other thing that got me thinking was when I was looking for casters for Genesis Gold grills, they differentiated between 00-01 models and 02 and up. Thank you Dan for helping me to confirm this.

Bowed out cook box. I had this fixed before I even realized it so I don't have a before picture. The grates were sitting right on the edge of the cook box in the middle where it had somehow become bowed out or warped. I used a pipe clamp to bend it back into shape using the grates as a stop. I did it in the middle and then to the left and right of center. It was fast and easy to do and now the gap is nice and even across the length of the cook box.IMG_20250413_193027394.jpgIMG_20250413_193138389.jpg

I have a cook box that I would have otherwise tossed. I will give that a shot on it and if it cracks or doesn't work for me. No loss.
Bruce, I'm pretty sure it won't crack. One thing I just learned doing this one is that the Silver B cook box is a lot "springier" than the 1000 cook box I straitened out a couple years ago. I would still probably make sure it wasn't cold out when I did it though.

Nice save on that, Steve! I will keep that idea in mind this season. I have a feeling some of my old fireboxes stored in the attic of my barn will need it.

That looks like a pretty handy tool!

This manifold isn't going to have a glass smooth finish when I'm done with it, but it won't continue to rust like it has. Take a look at the end that attaches to the cook box.

That’s another place I’ve often thought about putting an SS washer. One of the spirit b’s I picked up was like that, but way worse.

I like that Steve!
Thanks Josh. What part, the super rusty manifold or the warped cook box? This is pretty typical of what I find when I'm restoring a 20 plus year old grill, an uphill battle all the way. Now I'm getting my butt kicked again by the stainless steel lid, at least the liner is still in good shape. I've been through three 4ah batteries in various tools today, not bad.IMG_20250414_175305062_HDR.jpg
