Genesis 1000 Rebuild

Thought I'd start a thread on my latest grill. I would guess that most of you wouldn't even mess with a grill like this, but they are so rare around here that I went ahead with it even though I doubt I'll get my money back on it. Grill was a rust bucket...
The cross member by the firebox-

One of the frame connector tabs had broken loose:IMG_20200627_100022.jpg

The zbars are salvageable, but won't look very good with the amount of effort I'll put in 😁

Repaired frame tab. Brain fart led to me using a larger bolt..

Neighbor welded in a new rail by the firebox. Could have hit those welds with a grinder, but that's the least of this grills problems. Lol. Firebox and end caps do look really good with the stove bright black satin paint. It is pricey, but looks much much better than what I get with the Rust-Oleum ultra.

Manifold cleaned up nicely. All new hardware except for the screws holding down the control panel.IMG_20200727_140804.jpg

Nearly everything that can be is new on the grill. It came with a newer type tank holder, Bruce supplied me with an older one.

The hood is faded as bad as I've seen. And had a nasty scratch

Still working on the handle, I'll update with finished pics later. I may end up keeping it, seems like I should have a gas grill. I've got way North of $300 in it and have no idea what it will bring. At least I saved one from the landfill!IMG_20200729_132457.jpg

Ralph,
Nice job on that 1000, most others would have ran away from that much of a project. You should be commented.

I used Stove Bright Satin paint on several of my restores, quality paint. Lately, I'm liking the higher gloss level of Rustoluem Ultra. Didn't care for the Krylon I tried.

Finished this grill up. Came out nice. Had it listed on a Facebook for a week or so and no interest, but my grandson wants a grill to take to school so it will be going with him to be brutalized by a bunch of college jocks.

I'm cringing over here, but it might be ok. I think one of the Q-series portables would be good, too, for tail-gating.

That interior is pretty much bullet proof, but too bad you didn't have some durawood to swap onto that thing before you give it to the kid and his brethren. That pretty wood might not make it.
