Fridge getting old.......REALLY old

I was so disappointed to find mine did not have craft ice. I totally misread specs as I'd been looking at so many fridges I got all in circles on them

@Josh Dekubber can you share what you dislike about your LG unit? I'm eyeing one, but your post has me curious. Thanks
Whirlpool and KA with French doors have the WORST ice makers in the world. The design is massively flawed. I threw mine out into the garbage after only a few years ownership. I went through a lemon replacement, multiple repair appointments, water all over my kitchen floor, numerous no ice issues, and then finally the unit stopped cooling.

Go read the online reviews.

Now my KA sbs is 23 years old and is our garage fridge/freezer. Works like a friggin champ. But sbs has limited storage IMO. But they WORK!

Whirlpool is one of the top rated and have never had a problem with mine. I love it. The ice works great also. At least in mine.

Also one of the things that I'm pickiest about is the counter depth. Not all counter depth are created equal. My Whirlpool it's nice and flush and has one of shallowest counter depths available. I don't care how good a refrigerator is if it sticks out into the room I'm not interested.

I'm not sure how your Whirlpool is set up but mine makes ice in the freezer drawer and the filtered water dispenser is inside the fridge. I don't like anything on the outside of the door.

I'm not trying to sell anybody on anything. Just sharing my experiences and my opinions.

Yes, we have lived with a SBS for quite a span of time and my only frustration is limitations on space. My Wife is a rabbit breeder and does competitive shows; as part of their diet, she feeds kale. This takes up valuable space and I'm looking forward to dedicating some bins for it.

If it weren't for kale storage I think I might like the full convert drawer feature but as it stands I feel we would lose some needed open space if I opted for that.

That I can think of, the only other feature not included on the unit I'm considering is a retractable shelf.

Ha. ScamSucks, I mean, Samsung says hold my beer.

We bought a Samsung counter depth french door with in-door ice and water. The ice maker started developing problems icing over under warranty, multiple parts replacements without resolution, then the refrigerator cooling cools started icing over. Samsung then claimed customer damage and refused all warranty work. Over $4,500 down the drain. And there are multiple class action lawsuits over the ice maker design flaws, as well as the cooling coils icing over.

I will NEVER purchase anything with a Samsung label on it ever again.

Amen! We have one with the French doors, but not with in-door ice or water. Just the icemaker in the freezer and it sucks. The icemaker and thermostat were both replaced, twice, under warranty. The freezer would cycle too much and go into extended defrost modes. Just a crap product all away around. Holding my breath that they hold up, now that the warranty has expired. Damn thing is only 6-7 years old. On the flip side, the ice maker generates regular half-moon shaped cubes and, for whatever reason, ice chips which we don't really mind., When this POS goes up, I'll never buy another one....

Other than mixing up the model numbers and not getting the one with the gourmet ice. Perfectly pleased with both of our Samsung refrigeration products. The new fridge and the standup freezer in the basement. Also have Samsung washer/dryer (electric). Honestly no issues. No crystal ball to look 20 years into the future so IDK if the fridge will be here as our old Amana is (now sitting in daughter's kitchen), but then again at my age LOL who knows?

If the KA or Whirlpool has this type of indoor ice maker, run. Run far, far away. Note my crappy highlighting.

Sounds like you have the one the works. I posted a pic of mine that failed (similar design, different actual model number).

The nicer Whirlpool models are nearly identical to the KitchenAid ones, which I have. I also have the ice maker in the freezer drawer and it's always worked perfectly. I did have to replace a light bulb in the fridge recently though. The one thing I do dislike about Whirlpool/KitchenAid refrigerators is that the plastic shelves/ drawers are a little on the cheap side and prone to breaking.

I think that some brands are probably overall better than others but pretty much any major brand is going to have at least one crappy model. I can understand if somebody does wind up buying that crappy model and they write off that company as garbage forever. Id probably do the same and not want to risk getting another crappy model especially if customer service is crap also. I know I say it all the time but they just don't make stuff like they used to. I really appreciate older things that were built right and built to last like old school Weber's.

I'm about 7 or 8 years on the Samsung front load washer, and IIRC maybe 6 on the dryer. I think maybe 18 mos now on the Samsung freezer. I honestly did NOT want to buy a Samsung but they were the only ones with a freezer in such a useful configuration for me.
And that video of the repair guy showing that Samsung stuff (as long as no ice maker in the fridge portion) seem to be pretty darn good units. So, we continue with hoping for the best from all of them

Our Samsung fridge just started acting up.
I noticed ice building up on the backside of the drawer that I keep the deli items in (center left).
The ice makes it harder to open the drawer.

Damn nice fridge and I don’t regret buying it but dang.
It might fix itself if I slightly raised the temp maybe but I’m not sure.

I’m out of town so the wife is dealing with our Costco extended warranty.

There are no service techs in our area.
She was told told to go hire one and then get back with them.

My girl is not a push over and is now dealing with them bringing us a new refrigerator.

I have never heard any bad reviews of Costco’s extended warranty programs so I hope that this goes well.

Heck it would be nice if they even left this one here for my shop.

If it’s a small leak or a badly insulated area I can probably fix that but I paid good money for the extended warranty so I’m not fixing anything unless they just want to leave this one here.

Have any of you ever heard of Costco not honoring their extended warranty?

I noticed if I set that middle drawer to "meat" it's pretty darn cold in there. Even to the point of some ice crystals but not frozen. Another thing I did was a turned off the baby ice cube maker. We don't use them.
What I would REALLY love to do is set it up with 2 water supplies. RO for the ice machine and my good highly filtered/unsoftened tap water for the beverage center. That is on my "to do" list for sometime soon. I hate the cloudy ice cubes. They're also not as "hard" as ones made with RO water. So they don't last as well in a drink

I agree about setting the drawer temp differently.
That makes a lot of sense and you said it better than I did.

My thoughts are that it is now on extended warranty and I should file the claim before I hosed.

I’m a decent mechanic.
I know piping systems better than most but I’m not a refrigerator mechanic or repairman and I’m not sticking my neck out there on my own nickel to learn.

Yea, let it play out.
Costco like Sam's club usually does a solid on warranties and so does Amazon.
