Fraud

So I got to be one of the lucky people all over the country I guess but I guess mostly here in Illinausea. Got a letter from Illinois Employment Security. That my claim for unemployment insurance was denied. Imagine that. Been fully retired now over 4 years but apparently I worked someplace until Feb 2020. Now the fun begins. Ugh

Bet on what Brad said. You've had your identity stolen.

Call Social [in]Security and get a report.

Well that sucks. There has been a huge surge of unemployment fraud cases across the country because of the whole COVID crap. Get your name cleared as soon as possible and good luck.

Yeah the police officer told me the authorities now believe it's someone on the "inside" who works for IDES causing it. He also said they really are not able to steal identity they're phishing. SS office will be on my call list today though I may look online first. I have called all 3 credit agencies and put a hold on my credit. (SUCKS), ordered credit reports from all 3, and am waiting on a call back from the IDES fraud hotline but it's a 7 to 10 day wait there's so much going on! It's happened to my brother 3 TIMES so far as well! And he has Lifelock! THe officer said the real danger is if you try to use the debit card IDES sends out. Apparently with all the Unemployment extensions going on, and talk of the stimulus he explained they phish until someone unsuspecting "bites".

Pardon my language..... Lifelock itself is a complete <BEEEEEP>ing fraud. They do absolutely nothing that you cannot do for yourself. All they do is basically put the appropriate freezes in at the credit reporting agencies and periodically renew. For most people, Lifelock is completely waste of money, IMO.

So, law enforcement thinks there's a mole in IDES. That's just bleeping wonderful. Unfortunately, being completely within the state probably means no assistance from federal agencies, although if you can show SS involvement, that'd change the landscape pretty significantly.

What a drag! I have not had a lot of problems but, I have had a few and when it’s resolved I always make myself a cocktail and say “Well, that’s done!”
Good luck buddy!

That sucks you-know-what!!!
A couple years ago, I tried using my debit card for breakfast one Saturday morning
Turned down
What the ......?!?!?!
Called our bank and they said that there was "suspicious" activity on it
After I proved who I was, I asked what sort of suspicious activity
They said that someone tried to use it at a mall in Madrid, Spain!!!
Uh, definitely not me!!!
Never been to Spain, and haven't been to Europe since summer 1986!

I feel for you Larry! Went through the identity theft routine a couple of years back when my internet provider got hacked. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I did have my banks lock my accounts/loans to in person transactions only until I got it all straightened out if you think that might help. Took me a long time to get my name cleared and my credit rating back. Be patient and it should all work out. good Luck!

Don’t try using one at a big art fair like Ann Arbor where you might have vendors from Florida and Pennsylvania without letting the bank know! My wife’s card was locked down once that way, I’d rather have them lock it than end up having the worse headache of disputing charges.
I’ve had to do both, kind of a pain but, it was cheaper than the $400 some yutz was trying to charge on my card.
That was stopped in it’s tracks by my credit union! They were trying to use it at a Meijer store near Detroit and, I avoid Detroit like bad fish!

I received a fraudulent Unemployment Insurance finding as well (also from Illinausea). I had to leave my call back # and get in the queue. None of the info on the "form" was legit. I am fully employed so clearly some phish or "phraud" activity. My company's HR dept. notified the state through its channels, and I was told to avoid any debit card should it come. State of Illness called me today, had a nice chat, didn't ask anything out of the ordinary other than DO YOU TONYS T-BONE REPORT THAT THIS IS A FRAUDULENT CLAIM USING YOUR NAME? and I said uh, yeah. ugh.

<scratches head> I'm trying to figure out how the perps behind this scam profit from your use of fake debit cards. There has to be an angle.

That happened to my Wife on a credit card charge and she filed a police report, but it turned out to be somebody ( Legit) with the same name.
Maybe IDES got they're info crossed?

As some of you know my real name there are not many with my surname in the world. Most are in Europe. France and Italy primarily. They also did not use my proper first name. I have never registered any type of employment using "Larry" as my name as it's not legally my name. It's a nickname. So right away I knew something was up

In my case the fake form had my proper name but when it listed the "direct deposit account" where my unemployment funds would go, it was to some credit union 1000 miles away, plus the letter actually lists my alleged "quarterly income" which wasn't even close either. But still, I'll keep a close eye on this. The only good part is yesterday we grilled some huge burgers on the :redgenesis1: --- two with butterkase cheese, bacon, and dijonnaise - and two with cheddar, beef bacon, mayo, BBQ sauce, crispy onions and bread and butter pickles. Toasted brioche buns and fries. So TAKE THAT you unemployment scammers.

Well those sure sound good. I grilled up some pork tenderloin last night. I got so preoccupied with the wife and some "issues" she was unhappy with me about I didn't pay attention to the tenderloin. It was "OK" but not my best work :(
