I have been looking for a 22WSM for a while now. I used to have one but sold it because I didn't need something that large. I have been cooking pork butts for my daughters homecoming at school the last few years and decided that I wanted to be able to do all 12 butts myself next year. Looks like I will be running all 3 of my WSMs to get to 12 butts. This came across my FB marketplace early Sunday. It had been posted 18 minutes prior so I figured someone had reached out to him. Tried and he said that it was still available. I Zelled him the money and arranged to pick it up later that day. I bought the WSM for $40 and went ahead and bought the kettle for $15 more. Ordered a Cajun Bandit door today and pretty sure Santa is bringing me a hinge for the lid. Time to stock up on some charcoal, I remember the 22 is a hungry beast.

I think what people don't get is that even though there's only a 4" difference in grate diameter, it's almost 1.5x in grate square inches. So imagine how many more cubic inches of interior space there are in the 22.5" WSM vs. the 18.5" WSM that need to be heated, and how many more square inches of exterior surface area that will be absorbing and radiating heat. I've always thought it was like comparing a home oven to a commercial pizza oven...it's obvious which one will consume more fuel!

Oh, and really good deal on that smoker! :D

That is an extremely important point there Boss, it’s a question of volume as well as square inches, I thought long and hard before I realized that a 14 would be smaller that my requirements call for. My brother gifted me a 22” which I got home and sat for ten minutes and saw that it was head and shoulders more than I would “effectively” use. The 18, was the perfect size for my needs, but there are times…..

That is why I sold the one I had prior to this one. I found it for a good price and had the complete WSM set for a while. For the last few years I used the 18.5 much more than my 14. The only reason I bought this one is that I have a specific event that I will use it for, and the price was right.

Great deal and it's on wheels.:wsm:
I only break out the big boy for laying ribs out flat or bacon. I bought a hanging rack so looking forward to doing chicken halves.'Did a big load of bologna with it.
