I just finished watching Family Beef, a 90-minute documentary from KXAN-TV in Austin TX. I really enjoyed it, and I think you will, too, if you like Texas barbecue and its history. I knew much of these stories, but not all of them, and found it interesting from several different perspectives. It covers the family feuds between Smitty's and Kreuz, between Black's and Terry Black's, the connection between the two families, and how deaths are affecting family relationships; the up-and-coming Barbs B Q in Lockhart making contemporary barbecue; and the intersection of all these with Daniel Vaughn and the Texas Monthly quadrenial 2025 Top 50 Best Barbecue Restaurant list.
