That's the model of that grill, you don't see that many of them.
I was thinking more like a loose burner where fire went back toward the burner knob. That actually happened to me years ago.That thing had one helluva fire in there. Lay odds the valves, manifold and everything under there is toast. Likely the firebox is burned through as well
I'll tell ya. Those things were top notch grills. All welded 304SS, lots of brass, nothing cheap about them except where they were madePretty nice Ducane near me:

I recall seeing them in Home Depot (I think it was HD) that far back it could have been Builder's Square (now defunct) And quite honestly I was thoroughly impressedI’ve yet to see one of those in person, but they look pretty stout in pics.
