I know we don't need this but it's tempting.

I had my interest piqued by the similar Gen 1 SSP’s for quite a while and finally rehabbed one last year. It was pretty straight forward with the exception of trying to remove the old gas assist igniter assembly for replacement. It was a slow and cautious process to avoid damaging the porcelain while cutting through the rusted and frozen hardware. I was surprised by the near total lack of interest for it in my area once it was done TBH. I wound up holding onto it for a couple of weeks before dropping my price to a break even number to just move it along. I’m glad to have finally had the chance to do one but I don’t see me doing another.

That's great information Tom. Thank you I appreciate it!

Now that you mentioned it I have seen really nice ones sit unsold several times.

If I purchased one it would be with the intentions of keeping it but I really don't need it. I think if I do get something like this it will probably be a Weber Summit Kamado S6.

Agreed. A WSK has been on my radar for a while. The right deal just hasn’t come my way yet.

Didn't you mean "The Dahk Side" After all Ol Darth did have a bit of Boston in his voice :D
FWIW I too would be VERY tempted by an unknowing person doing a "giveaway" like that on a WSK. You bet I would. Just to satisfy the curiosity aspect if nothing else

I'm not planning to. I have limited time right now and zero space to store it.

If it had a blue lid or maybe a red lid I'd make space to store it, or at least make space for the lid.
If I was close to you I would trade you a blue or red lid for a green or black lid. I like red but I have more red lids than I could ever use.

My best black lid is my oldest lid. 1985 metallic black.
I'd still like a black platinum and a black Jr lid.
I feel like quality was at its highest in 1985 and slowly went down from there. Maybe not but it seems that way.

There could definitely be some truth to that although I always figured time in the sun is what really did the trick on the lids and especially the control panels that I see around here. The black Platinum series lid is still my all time favorite for sure.Screenshot_20230719-192216.png
