Copper OTG craigslist find!

I picked up this beauty off of craigslist last night for $75. I'm pretty happy about that. The only thing that bothered me is that the guy listed it as "new", but there is some damage on the lid. I hate it when people aren't honest in their listings. This should have been listed as "new, with an explanation about the damage. I would have still bought it, but I wen't with a certain expectation because of the listing. Either way, I feel like I got a good deal and the copper is going to match my deck really well.

If not new it does look "not used". To bad about the ding but I've painted over worst than that, hopefully that will work for you.

Believe me, you got your moneys worth. That's a beautiful grill. You might give Weber a call. They are very helpful and might have some touch up paint or recommendation on how to properly repair. Probably a little sanding and some new paint and you're good to go.

Good looking kettle and for $75.00, good deal. I wonder if the guy had got a discount on it? Had I noticed it before the sale, I would have pointed it out and offered $40.00 and probably paid $50.00. Now you won't feel so bad when or if you ever put a ding in it.

Speaking of not being honest.....check out this post on CL:

What caused that damage? It doesn't look like it was dropped - paint is chipped, but I don't see a dent. Might be worth registering, then contacting Weber. They may likely provide you with a replacement. Either way, it's a nice find.

The handles alone are with the asking price! :D

Not sure what caused it. I asked him how he got it, and he told me he got it on "bid". When I asked how, he did seem to want to inform me. Honestly it was a strange interaction. I think I will take your advice and register it and see if weber will do anything.

Sounds like he stole it, lol

Haha. I didn't get that impression. He lived up in the hills a bit, and his property was littered (literally) with weber stuff. There must have been 20 kettle lids scattered through out the dirt. That's why inquired how he got since he clearly has some sort of Weber buying and selling thing going on.

Finally used the Copper kettle this weekend. Nothing too special. I did a bbq meatloaf and bacon wrapped, goat cheese stuffed dates. All turned out excellent (expect for the pictures).

One thing I noted on the new kettle. The handle gets pretty hot when in use. I did have the temp up around 400. But I've done this on my performer many times and have never notice the heat in the handle. With the copper kettle I had to set the lid down after a few seconds on grabbing it each time. Do all the newer kettles have that problem?

Here's the new set up (a little messy right now):

Sorry no plated pics.

That copperhead looks great on your deck! As do the meatloaf and dates.

Did you ever contact Weber about the lid?
