Made inside, on this rainy morning, in my #6 Wagner.
First I made the caramel icing.
I've used this same recipe for about 40 years now.

Heavily, and messily iced.

Have a great SB weekend everyone!

Caramel Icing:
1/2 cup butter (not margarine)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/8 cup milk
Pinch of salt
1/2 teasp. vanilla extract
1 cup powdered sugar, more or less

In a saucepan melt butter over medium high heat
Stir in brown sugar and salt
Heat to a near boil, add in milk
Bring mixture back to a full boil
Remove from heat, pour into a mixing bowl
Let cool at least 15 minutes

Add vanilla and slowly beat in powdered sugar with mixer until desired consistency

I used to amaze the kids on camping trips with Grands donuts and donut holes in a dutch oven over a 22" kettle.
They would have been much better with your icing!

Bob, those look amazingly good. Will be enjoying Super Bowl weekend. Doing a brisket in the PBC before the game starts.
GO BRONC'S!

Oh Boy I've been looking for a good simple caramel recipe for a while, looks like donuts for SB Sunday for sure. Thanks for sharing Bob.
